Speedo calibration on 3rd Gen Tacoma

I am waiting like the rest of us. I will check status when the 2021 trucks roll out. Then if not, I will write a WTF letter to Toychoda.

Because Toyota changed the wiring pinouts on the cluster harness in 2019, and Hypertech hasn't updated their product. Why? Who knows.

 

Can't. Dealers have no way of correcting it, and Toyota has never released any software for the Tacoma that allows for speedo/odo/mileage correction. In addition, my dealer told me that even if they DID have a way to do it, federal law prohibits them from doing so because it would be considered "tampering" with the odometer.

 

lmao meanwhile letting me tamper with the odometer by understating the true mileage due to my larger tire size .... smart.

I was poking at the law itself, how it doesn't really take into account people COMMONLY put larger tires on their vehicles...

 

Oh, absolutely. Apples and oranges though, IMO.

 

Not only tire diameter, which correlates to actual amount of pavement under rubber- but also so many other factors. The mileage is supposed to be a measure of wear on the system as a whole but we all hear about anecdotal "highway miles" which is valid, and the actual rolling resistance of one tire vs another (even of the same diameter) will vastly alter the strain placed on the engine during the same number of miles. It's just a good faith effort on absence of a more empirical measure.
Odometer aside, the Speedo is a legitimate concern as you'll be under-reporting your speed with a larger diameter. GPS speedo should address that issue though.

I'm hearing two different things about speedo correction. The 4.88 mega thread states in post#1 that a re gear required speedo correction. Everything else says only bigger tires require speedo correction. If I run stock tires and change to 4.88 is my speedo correct or no?

 

19s have been out for over a year. Seems like a company that doesn't care that much about making money in aftermarket parts.

 

Say some of the people who have bought it. I know plenty of people who have no issues w the factory tune, including myself.

 

Say most all people who have tuned. But if the factory tune is OK for you and others, then I don't have a problem with that. Why would I give a poop? I've have driven both and prefer the power of the tune.

 

For what it’s worth I just installed this on my 16’. When I was programming the module I noticed that 2019 - 2020 are listed in the software. I bet they will have an option soon.

 

How does this one compare to the hyper tech and is it a programmer type or just plug in and let it work it’s magic.

 

As far as i know it's the same one as the hyper tech just different sticker on the box. It is programmed on the computer
