Question about trimming inner fender

I would like to get some 285's once i put my lift on. I understand there is some extensive trimming needed to fit the 285's. My question is this, Being that im in the northeast and the winters are terrible with salt and snow. Would it be a bad idea to cut up the inner fender well just to fit a little bit bigger tire? Would all that trimming get all that road crap in the winter into places I dont want it? I know mud and what not would get up in there when not in winter, but i figured the salt and what not would be a lot worse to get up there. Just a thought that I had. Maybe there is nothing around that area to worry about but I figured id ask to see what others think. Thanks for any input.

 

I just put 285s on mine with a 3" lift and 17x9s. First, I had to take off the mudflaps. That may be issue enough to make you not want to go that big. Then, the only part I trimmed was like a small triangle off the bottom of the back of the painted part of the inner wheel well, where the fender wraps around (i.e. mudflap area). I can't go full lock backing out, but for the most part I'm fine with just this minor mod. I didn't have to expose the inner area underneath.

That said, the road conditions back there are murder on any vehicle.

yea i dont mind removing the mudflaps. I really dont cut up the cab mount. I just wasnt sure if being up here with the winter having the fender well cut up would just cause more issues than good for just getting a little more rubber.

 

BTW, I'm installing Baja Bumpers right now. Should have them installed by tomorrow.
