I think this is a healthy correction after a huge run up, and has nothing to do with news cycles. We could correct 10%+ and it's still "normal" after a 40%+ run up like we just had.

The market is anticipating a new round of shutdowns. I do wonder if it will happen, we have heard different things regarding the fatality rate, and how easily it spreads by asymptomatic carriers.. seems like the 'health experts' have no idea what they're doing

I respectfully disagree (because who knows who's right?), I think the news is assigning a cause to this decline after the fact. I think if COVID-19 magically vanished, this correction would have still happened.

I'm not too sure about that, the data showed COVID was ramping up again earlier this week, it just seems like investors just got wind of it. The smart ones (i.e. not me) got out the past two trading days. Today is where everyone else is going to start leaving.

It's possible, I really have no idea. When the riots and looting was at its peak, the market climbed, which doesn't really make sense. I just think the market does its own thing (based on many factors such as RSI, over bought, over sold, etc.), and then we assign a cause to a rise or drop after the fact. With a 40%+ run up, it had to correct at some point.

I don't think looting and rioting in a few urban areas is quite the same as more shutdowns of the whole US economy though

It seems the market just got ahead of reality. Everything rising despite nothing actually operating like it was pre covid. It just needs to get lined up and rise again at a more appropriate pace.

Every report I have heard said there would not be any more shut downs. Of course there could be, nobody knows.

Until we really know how fatal the virus is, it will be hard to know for sure if more shutdowns are necessary. Plus I have not heard any more news on a vaccine

Social media these days is textbook example of confirmation bias. Regardless of one's political leanings, it seems the doctors/scientists who agree with your personal point of view are experts while those who disagree are flat-earthers and deniers. Then with every media outlet spinning stuff to fit their own agenda, the objective "just the facts" among us are left wondering what the real truth is...
