KYB rear shocks

I searched and couldn't find much on these. Called Autozone and they saw the same thing I see.

I currently have 5100 all around, but the rears need replacing as one of the shocks has unthreaded itself from the mount (does that even happen)

I can get a pair of KYB Excel G for less than one 5100.

I have a few questions though:

Why is there only one size/part number of the KYB (confirmed by autozone) when there are two different sizes for left and right?

Also I am not going to lose any ride height going this way am I? How do I know if my truck is using the shocks as a lift adjust?

They probably just used a length that fits for both. Maybe not ideal, but I'm sure it's fine. Typical for the "budget" shocks to do that.

Also, shocks have nothing to do with ride height. The springs support the weight, not the shocks.

 

Depending on how much lift over stock you have in the rear, you may blow out those cheap shocks on your first drive off pavement.

 

I have as far as I can tell, no lift. I emailed KYB and they said to go with the

$62 KG5462 Gas-a-Just Gas Shock

KG5462 gas-a-just since it is a TRD model

 

Ok, I asked because you stated something about adjusting them for lift.

As @jbrandt stated, shocks do not provide lift. Leaf packs and coil springs provide lift.

With that being said, I'd suggest you go with Bilstein 4600s that way they're not far from your 5100s as far as feel.

 

Yeah sorry about that mis quote. I know better than that. I should have just asked if the length of the shock would work with a lift. But I don't believe I have a lift.

I appreciate all the responses. I am going to go with the KYB because they are cheap and I have read that they work well. I also read they are a little stiffer than stock, which is what I have also read about the 5100, so hopefully they will work well until I am ready to swap out the front struts.

Just not trying to sink a lot of money into this truck right now (3k is about to go into it anyways)

 

Kybs are good, ill be running a set of them on my 5 lug when i do my shocks all around. As mentioned before, just make sure part number and all that is gtg for u

 

Seems you should be able to warranty the bilsteins?

Well I am an idiot. I looked at the leaf springs again and they are skyjackers with a 2.5". Front apparently has 3" lift. KYB are getting here today. Going to have to send them straight back.
Just ordered some 5100s. Should have just done that from the start.
