I'm considering a mini split. I have hot water baseboard heat so central air would require installing ductwork. I had a 15,000 BTU unit in the last house and it was awesome. Figured I'd put something a little larger in my living room facing the entry to the dining room and it would cool the main living area. I could also run it on fan only in the winter and it'd pull the hot air from near the ceiling (pellet stove is in the living room) and blow it into the rest of the house.

A friend just put in a DIY unit that comes pre-charged. They make multi-head units too, so one compressor outside and I could put an 18k in the living room and a 9k in my master bedroom.

This is the tire I intend to take at some point. First floor is currently taken care of by a wall mounted AC from 1997

I have a window 6000 BTU unit in my bedroom. It works fine, but it's loud and probably inefficient in comparison. Nothing in the rest of the house--it usually doesn't get too bad. Highest I've ever seen is about 80 inside.

That's what I had in the last house. Worked great.

At work I have Daikin units in my MDF room--a 36,000 in the main room and a 9000 in the smaller phone room. Had them put in a few years ago to replace a 36k ceiling unit that was 20 years old and becoming problematic. They're awesome. All I do is clean the filters a few times a year.

Granted, I have a rack unit that cools most of the equipment, so the load on them isn't high at all.

My road super just had a quote for a new compressor in his 20 year old whole house system and that alone was $7k. That can buy a lot of window units.

80! I'd die. My house is a nice 60-65 degrees. Sleep with no covers typically too. I run hot though lately my temp has been checked numerous times at 97.7

I'm the same way. I start melting over 70, over 75 I'm very uncomfortable and at 80 I'm a puddle. This year, I've been fighting putting in the window units so I'm still just using open windows for air flow. I'll break down and put them in eventually...

I also run warm but my temp is in the mid-97 range.

So, just a heads up, and a question for y'all, KTJO has been perma'ed across all the sites. Any idea what will happen to the pre-orders people placed?

Should still be carried out. Her business has no hard-line connection to TW other than an avenue of contact.

oof. That’s a little cold for me. In the winter we set around 63 64 and have a fireplace too. Summer if the ac is on it’s like 73 to 75. But we only usually need it at night and it’s not often that we can’t open the door and windows instead. We have a slider off our bedroom into the backyard.

oooo I missed the drama. Wtf happened??

No idea. I just saw it in the banned members thread. That, and the grab handle thread is locked.

KTJO sent out an email. He said that a mod got upset with him for not being a vendor (but claims that he was never asked to be a vendor). No idea if it is true. Also claims it was the same person who gave him the temporary ban of a week (seems to think they are out to get him).
