2nd Gen Access Cab Roof Rack

I was thinking about an LED light bar......and it looks like the swing away/stowable roof rack is only made for the double cab. However, I did come across part #PT27834050CB and I believe that these are stationary roof bars that bolt directly to the holes in the roof minus the side rails and obviously minus the stowaway capability.

Has anybody installed these? Any pics? I searched for the part number and got 2 threads, one of which had some wrong information in there.

I don't really care if they are stationary vs stowable. Stowable just kind of sounds unnecessary to me.....like an option most people will never ever use. I just want something I can attach a light bar to......

On Amazon it also says it will fit a 2014 Toyota Tacoma.

There isn't one video that doesn't show the roof RACK as opposed to the cross bars when searching for "Toyota Tacoma OEM Cross bars"......And nothing comes up when searching for the part number.

 

Obviously this is not a tacoma but it will look something like this......So the cross bars minus the two bars that run along the side of the roof.

 

And I can't find instructions for it either. Wtf.

 

And now that I think about it the weather stripping that covers the mounting holes will have to be removed and that's just going to look bad methinks.

 

The access cab does not have pre-drilled holes like the crew cab. You can drill them yourself and insert rivnuts and there are several members who have done that. Rhino Rack (IIRC) makes a track that is designed to fit in the gutter of the access cabs but again, you have to drill but the tracks allow you to use any of that style rack (Yakima, Thule, etc.). The Prinsu style racks can be mounted if you're willing to drill or you can get the clamps style that the big brands offer.

 

So if there are no holes......how do the cross bars install? I suppose they clamp to the side of the roof like the Rhino Rack? This part is listed for the access cab.....So it must install somehow.

 

They don't. Call your local Toyota dealer parts counter and check but it looks like PT27834050CB is just the crossbars themselves, nothing else. The base assembly only fits the double cab unless you cut it (which some members have done and there is at least one thread on it) but you still have to drill holes as there aren't any on the access cab.

 

I sucks that Toyota did not prep the AC models for a roof rack-- I didn't know that before I purchased. I've looked into aftermarket crossbars but I would really like a factory roof rack-- without drilling, cutting, etc.

That to me looks *completely* different from the other roof rack that has the side rails and the swing away cross bars. This looks like it can install by itself.

Where the description is one line and reads this:

"Genuine (2005 - 2014) Toyota Tacoma Cross Bars. Great for carrying large items on top of your truck. Includes hardware for installation."

Now, I've called a handful of Toyota dealers (guys selling this part on ebay, etc.) and finally found someone to help me. They are actually going the extra mile by ordering this part because now he wants to know what the f*** is going with this ridiculousness. None of the dealers had any instructions that they were able to download from their dealer systems. One guy erroneously sent me instructions for the other roof rack where it clearly states it's for double cabs.

If he comes through I will give him proper props and post about it here. He's also ordering the similar part numbers PT278-34050-LH and PT278-34050-RH to figure out just what the heck is going on here. Luckily he also has a 2nd gen Tacoma access cab he can work on. He's also going to pull the weather stripping to see if there are existing threaded holes and will take pics of everything.

I'm getting to the bottom of this. It is mind boggling to me that Toyota would not make a roof rack for the access or regular cabs......

 

I have a thule roof rack that didn't require drilling. It uses the gutter clamps - it's an old design for them but you can usually find them used.

 

Thanks will check them out if the OEM option doesn't work.

If you just want a roof light bar, then just get the brackets for one.

All access cabs require drilling into the roof for install. Otherwise, they just clamp on. IMO, they look like hammered dog shit.
I believe Prinsu makes an AC rack, still requires drilling.
