My 2018 Mustang for an OEM windshield with camera recalibration was just under $2,000, thru Safelite

This is in Eastern Kansas, so my insurer (USAA) contracts Safelite to negotiate replacement (Affordable Auto Glass locally). My gap insurance reimburses me for my $500 deductible, so I guess it doesn't cost me anything other than time running back and forth.

Paid $379 for a Pilkington windshield on my ‘20 Sport today. Cruise, lane departure and ADAS worked fine without a calibration after the new glass was installed. Local glass guy installed the windshield.

Back in 2011 I lost a windshield on my brand new 2011 2nd Gen Tacoma. At the time I worked for a Toyota dealership and they were selling the Diamond Fusion application in the finance office. It was horribly expensive and as far as I was concerned a huge profit making scam from the dealership. Diamond Fusion covered up to two windshields a year with a $50 deductible if you paid the $800 for the insurance for the lifetime of the vehicle. The dealership applied the coatings and you were covered so long as you purchased and re-applied the application once every year for $50. You could buy the packets at the Parts Counter and do it yourself. One of the other fellows at the dealership swore on this product on his own car. Said he had direct hits and in the worst case a tiny mark with no cracking. He skipped the insurance and just purchased the application at the Parts Counter for $50 and put it on himself. Shortly there after I got a big wham-o on my then new 2011 Tacoma after only 3 months. I replaced the windshield and immediately put on the Diamond Fusion application. That windshield lasted 8 years and took many many stone hits and never a mark, so I now also believe in the Diamond Fusion product but not the insurance the dealership offers.

The windshield lasted from February 2011 until May 2019 when I had a grouse fly up out of the ditch and hit me centre square and did in the windshield. The impact caused the rearview mirror to separate from the windshield and hit me in the head. My Dashcam caught it. Here is the video; IMG_9621.jpg

Since then I replaced my 2011 Tacoma with a 2019 Tacoma. Being the procrastinator that I am, I didn't get around to putting a Diamond Fusion application on it. Then I got a stone hit and another windshield gone after only 4 months on the road. This past Friday I went over to the Dealership and purchased a Diamond Fusion application for $51.00 and then over to the glass shop and had a new windshield installed. I will be putting on the application this week before I drive it next.

When I bought my 19, the dealership sold me a windshield warranty through "RoadVantage" for $600. This covers my windshield for 5 years with no deductible to either repair or replace. I already used it once. Here in Montana, just about everyone has cracked windshields due to the gravel/sand on the roads in winter.
