Not that I'm aware of at this time. I'll pass this along to the CFX3 product manager though and see if he has any insight on future plans related to smaller size units.

They definitely work harder and consume more power if you don't have them packed. That said, the battery protection is conservative so you don't get left stranded in the woods.

It may also be related to how you have it powered and the circuit it's on. If you are on an existing OEM circuit, voltage drop could be greater than what you'd see if running something like our DC hardwire kit directly from your battery to your cooler. Some of the team here have vehicles that have circuits that almost instantly cause the cooler to shut off when the vehicle is shut down. Check this out as well.

PS - sorry for being late to the party and not helping answer questions earlier. It's been a bit hectic for the last week o_O

No. Our DC hardwire kit is intended to run directly from your battery to where your fridge is located. The kit includes it's own 15A fuse. Using the kit is intended to sidestep any OEM circuits in your vehicle that might have a more significant voltage drop for some unknown reason.

Might be a dumb question here but how waterproof are these coolers? I plan on keeping it in the bed pretty much 24/7. Now it won't be totally open to the elements, I will have a bed rack and a RTT over it, but there is plenty of open places for rain to come in.

With the rack and rtt, if you add a fridge cover you should be fine. I was in between caps one time and it got directly poured on overnight (Had a fridge cover on) and zero issues. Take that anecdotal evidence for what it’s worth.

We don't provide a weatherproof warranty but with some general protection from the rain, dust, etc. and care over time you should get years of use. We've seen some fully exposed, older models run for years (think back of a construction vehicle used on job sites in dirt, full sun, etc.)

Thanks! I don't plan on purposely beating on it. I don't really have a place to store it so keeping it mounted would be nice. My bed right now stays relatively dry so I am just going to assume the cover will make it perfect.

It may be unnecessary but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to treat the cover with a waterproof spray as well. Like what you’d use on tents. Just that extra level of protection.

@Dometic I was surfing your site last night and accidentally ended up on the Australian site. I noticed in their CFX3 line that they have a CFX3 55 without the ice maker. Not only is it a little cheaper it also has just a bit more usable space inside without the ice maker. Is this something possibly coming to the US market? I personally don't have an interest in the IM part.

@brentano - wanted to follow up again to your question. I checked with the team and there are no plans right now. We've added your interest to other feedback we've gotten on this front so it will be factored into our product plans.

Question for all you fellas who've got their fridges wired in to the battery. I've got a stock battery in my 2016 Tacoma, anyone got a guesstimate on how long it'd run my 55im at fridge temp? Also what should I run my shutoff at, medium or high?
Just looking for some insight, new to the fridge life and don't want to strand myself. I'll be going on a trip next weekend with some family so it'll be a good breakdown and testing trip!

Does this plug into the 12v plug that comes with the 55IM or is a seperate plug that is ordered?

When you unscrew the factory plug, it screws into that receptacle.

We just kinda had a similar topic regarding single small battery not not being quite up to task with bigger fridge. And that was an AGM battery. If you'd start reading somewhere around page 7, it would be a bit helpful. That being said, to avoid being stranded with dead starting battery, you might want to look into battery upgrade (like group 27F AGM), or possibly look into some kind of portable power solutions.
    Good luck

@Dakota3645 - You may have already headed out on your trip, but in the event you haven't...

The best way to do this is to start with the medium battery protection and test it out in your driveway, where you can jump it if needed. You can use a multimeter to check voltage levels directly at your battery as you let it run, and then when notice the battery protection has tripped. When testing, be sure to pack the cooler in a similar fashion to what you'll have out on the trail and set it to the same internal temps you'd use.
