Don't go to downieville expecting the same welcoming crowd! They still do t want people from out of the area there. I fucked up and drove in to see a friend there. I saw him and had a beer then was asked to leave that town by a crew in a Toyota crawler with (you guessed it) masks. They truly want to be left alone for a while.
Dont feel bad about not going there, it's not the only town or community like that in the sierras. I've been through tons with my work.

Huh, I try to avoid stopping in the small towns and head Straight to areas to camp. I honestly don’t know how I would respond to a group of people asking me to leave town. I’d probably get myself into trouble...

I was there two weeks ago and it was very unusual to me. I grew up roaming from Allegheny to feather falls those people get something in their head and its really dumb. I don't like people and hate towns but have been asked to get outside my comfort zone. 30 years I spent trying to live in the woods and remain isolated from people and towns now I look at all the stuff going on and really want to go back to my old ways.
Really trying to brake out of my shell though.

My best friend grew up in Goodyears Bar, just outside Downieville, and recently, even he was surprised at the behavior of the folks there. His family is a household name there, and still have property there, and he couldn't understand the attitude. So much of that town relies on the tourist dollars. But, he told me last week that things were easing up.

I can understand their not wanting people. Small place, low population. No Rona. It happened in Santa Cruz which is quite a bit larger (didn’t work so well tho).

Used to Do a bit of motorcycle riding up that way and there’ve been a couple places we’ve stopped that you can hear the banjos even tho people are outwardly friendly.

I can actually show you places where you can see them on the front porch with a banjo and a fiddle. There's also houses near you have to walk to because no roads. Scary as hell really but once you get to know some of them they're great folks.

Finally, deer valley’s open. Anyone wanna do the slick rock Saturday morning from Utica reservoir towards 4, camp at alpine or head to deer valley and run it Sunday out back home at night, hopefully without issues. But I have Monday off too.

have to be notified by Friday afternoon. Sorry for the late invite.

    wheeling seasons finally here.

also doing a rubicon run July 17-19 with a Jeep crew from down south. I’ll probably be the only one in a taco schooling things going up ol’sluice And what I call now... the Toyota Bowl. LolDB20E2E3-946C-42FE-A01E-2BE0F0BA13EA.jpg1E642186-F2DF-49F4-BD1F-40BDB007916F.jpg

I thought slickrock was open already, last that I saw was May 31 was going to open. But I thought wrong after looking at the usfs site. So that means deer valley is still closed.

hopefully they open soon as I want to get a group together.
