Maybe the factory forgot to adjust and tight the hinges before it got shipped out.

Companies who make stuff have mistakes sometimes.

It’s the HD model with the frame inside that ties through the roof into the rack. Apparently the owner sold it to me at cost on accident. They guy that installed it told me they screwed up on the price and it should have been closer to $3500. I paid $2100 after taxes and everything.

Ordered a snugtop Xtra vision. I had a topper on my last two trucks and miss it. I do like being able to see out the back, thats why I went with the snugtop xtra vision. I am putting a prinsu rack on the topper and going to keep the oem racks on the cab and see how I like it. I have a feeling I will end up putting the prinsu rack on the cab... Will post pics when I get it setup.

I do love my Leer 100XR shell. That said, I have had to do a bit of work on it to get it correct.

My Leer came with both the rear glass latches way out of alignment. You could see almost 1/4" open from the sides. I had to readjust both sides myself.

I also took out all of the wiring connections made by the accessory store who installed it since they just used T-taps to connect the wiring. I soldered everything so there will be no chance of failure.

The rear glass gasket was installed like crap as well. It is uneven and hangs down and hits the tailgate when you close it. I bought some 3M rubber molding adhesive and I am going to tidy that up this weekend.

I don't know if the accessory shop did the latch alignment and the gasket or if it was Leer. Whomever did them should get a job flipping burgers though.....

The next upgrade for my Leer is to add a rack on top. I ordered it with the tracks, but no racks.

My last truck had an ARE shell, and they use Yakima instead of Thule which Leer uses.
I had it set up with just the 2 straight bars. It was just a 2WD Frontier, but I used the rack a lot.

For me it is all about hauling stuff like lumber, large canopy tents, or just recently, my new scooped hood for my Tacoma.
I really like the look of the Prinsu on the 4WD tacomas, but I wonder how it compares for hauling the big items that I want to use a rack for.
For me, I would just put it on the shell. Does anyone have any experience with a rack like the Prinsu vs. just the standard bars for hauling big stuff?

That model is slick looking. I think that the biggest difference between the XQ and XR is the design of the side windows, and the XQ comes standard with a carpeted headliner and LED lighting.

My last shell I just added LED strip lighting on the ceiling, so that was not a deciding factor for me. I needed the "windoors" for access to gear from the sides. I also got mine set up with the power lock on the back glass. That is a sweet feature.

I already got rid of the big LEER on the back glass, and I am going to replace the logos on the corners and back glass handle once I have someone make me up something custom to replace them with.

Mine has headliner too. The dealer offered me the power lock that I decided not to. I will probably get the power lock later. For now, if someone wants to borrow or move my truck, he/she can't open the topper.. Hah. I am smart that way. I keep the keys and I pass the fob to the driver.

I didn't think of the windoors but I was too late. I asked the dealer and see if they could replace but I was told they can't do that on this model. He said if I want the windoors, I have to get a new topper for that reason. I was like damn. So I probably to do that later.

I plan to take "Leer" logo off of the back door.

My led strips can be turned on when open the back door. I like this feature.

I like Prinsu rack on my topper. Looks great.

Just FYI. The Thule and Yakima racks are interchangeable, doesn't matter which brand tracks you have on the shell. I'm running my old yakima towers and bars from my 2nd gen on my Leer shell.

I can't really help with the prinsu questions. I've stuck with the 2 bars, because I like the ability to remove them quickly when I'm not using them.

I help with the Prinsu questions:

Prinsu racks have crossbars which are stronger that you can stand on it. You can put anything on the rack such as kayak, tire, tent, 2x4s, plywood, whatever you think of.

I have cab and top racks on mine which can carry long kayaks. No problem.

If you have Thule racks on your topper, then the prinsu rack can be mounted on the Thule tracks.

If you plan to have a tent on there, make sure to install bed stiffeners.

I think my biggest concern would be the dimensions of full sheets of plywood that are 4' x 8'.
I can't find the spec on how wide the Prinsu top rack is, but the bars show that they are 47".
Depending on the sheet of wood, they are 48"-49". It is more about being able to secure something down that is wider like that.

I am planning on just putting the rack on the shell only.

As far as weight, it is usually no more than 100 lbs, although I think that I pushed my old truck to about 300 or so for a short trip (less than 10 miles) with a bunch of drywall.

You can strap the plywood on there. First put strap on the rack on each side (two straps on sides) then place the plywood on the rack then put the strap over the plywood then hook it on other end, same way for front to back, side to side.

Or place a strap on each corner of the plywood.

    I understand about the weight...

Heres my Leer Craigslist score. $900 with windoors, keyless entry, and rails. I added the Yakima towers, bars and cargo box. Added the dogs too...The second pic of the full truck was taken last week. Never know what Tahoe weather will be like. Snow up at Burnside Lake in June. IMG_1705.jpgIMG_0816.jpg

Hahaha, I was wondering if anyone would notice that. Its a piece of foam. The correct usage for it is a stomp pad for snowboarding, but I put them on my vehicles so I can lean my snowboard against it, when I take it out of the box, and it won't scratch anything or fall over. The brand is Crab Grab.

Even without them throwing the dogs in on the deal, you got that shell for about 1/3 of new. That was a score!

Ya, It was honestly just perfect timing. The guy bought his truck with it on it and had no interest in keeping it. I drove From Tahoe to Santa Cruz on a Friday...round trip took 12 hours will all the Bay Area traffic coming up to Tahoe for the weekend. Still worth it, and beyond stoked on it!
