Shellshock's DIY inflator / deflator

Here is my set up. I put a disconnect on the inflator to make it easier for packaging and for possible future changes. Off the tee, I have straight fittings. I might change those out to swivels in the future. I also opted for ¼" air line vs. ⅜" line because the valve stem is only ⅛" so I didn't feel it would make a huge difference overall. I also have a 60 psi gauge that I might install but if I use the inflator and the inlet pressure goes over that, it will destroy the gauge. I might use a regulator to inflate for accuracy and convenience.

 

Where did you get the gauge inflator?

So to deflate, you just have the air line off the gauge and squeeze the lever correct?

Ironically I built something real similar to this but with 25' sections. So we could run the floor nailer and the finish nailer at the same time in the kitchen.
Flexzilla hoses and everything....

nice! i need to build another one of these someday to keep in the tundra.

I've also got a 25' extension i keep in my cargo trailer so i can use this and not have to disconnect the trailer.

when i had my camper trailer puke, i could reach back there if i set my portable compressor beside the truck.

Since the combo kit comes with a 3 ft hose and a 15 ft hose, I just ordered one of these instead of a Tee:

So I run a 6' hose with QC from the compressor under the hood into the bottom of the handle, then use the 3 ft hose to fill up the front tire and the 15 foot hose to fill up the back tire. It's honestly a bit ridiculous how much money this setup ends up costing but when you factor in the hoses, gauge, and connectors, it's pretty in line with putting it together yourself. It's all pretty bomb proof stuff a good analog gauge is worthwhile to me. And fortunately the combo kit was $15 cheaper when I bought it.

 

This is a good idea. I may have to find one.

Anyone have issues with their Haltec valve stem fittings? Mine don't close when I remove them from the valve stem. If I am not quick getting to the other tire it will drain it down a bit!

 

I’ve never had any issues with mine.

 

I will have to get another set. For some reason mine will not seal when removed. Oh well. Shit happens.

 

How do you like that inflator? Has it held up well?

 

I absolutely enjoy it. Everyone that see it wants it.

I use it about every other weekend to check the tires in our four vehicles. So, those killer chucks and the inflator / gauge get a work out. Not a hint of problems.

Out on the trail, it is a so much nicer being able to just stand up and gab while deflating / inflating versus crouching by the valve stems.

It is worth it at twice the price, but I did enjoy how cheap it was to cobble together.

I have had a few pressure gauges over the past few decades. One really nice dial gauge and a couple Chinesium ones. I never had a problem at all except for the Griots Garage digi that ended up as a Slime brand one later on. The battery contact spring broke off. Easy fix.

Heck, I was looking at HF for one, but they only had dial gauges either with a big range that was hard to clearly see the tick marks or too low for bicycle tires and such.

 

@Shellshock were the 6' flexzilla whips $19 each when you bought em, or $19 for 3? I thought when I clicked the link it was $19 for 3, but now it looks like it's for each.

 

Silly question, but are yours open or closed?
