    Huh. Interesting.

    Could you post a link/source?

    Late replying.

Was there on Wednesday, but headed home on Thursday. Watched it via NASA on Saturday.

Somewhere in there, my email box filled up, and started rejecting messages from TW. Then, TW locked my account. What a mess!

    Anyhow, all straightened out now.

I hope to head back to Florida for the next SpaceX launch. And more good seafood! :)

Speaking of, it was crazy. A few buddies and I were camping and I happened to look up and see a satellite. Then I noticed it was part of a uniform string of maybe 10 and realized Starlink is what I was seeing. What a crazy time we live in.

I still question starlink long term. I get the safety measures like a unique orbital height and deorbit plan but that many satillites in orbit at the same time sounds like a collision will happen at some time.

Picked up a sheet of first moon landing stamps!
Now that they’re here I’m having 2nd thoughts on actually using them!

Though I think it’s great w what SpaceX is doing w the Falcon 9, I’m not supportive of the Starlink and similar programs that add to the deterioration of the night sky.

The impact on astronomy is tragic.

Less than you think. The whole 'sky train of satellites' impacts a small percentage of viewing times, and only when the starlink birds are going out up to their final orbits.

I respect your opinion but don’t buy into it.

Unless they’re in the Earth’s shadow, they’ll be seen. Why else are they working to reduce albedo? Oh yeah, there’s gonna be over 40,000 of them up there.

    Go to:
-click on “Starlink passes for all objects from a launch”
-choose any launch from the current date to the Starlink 0 launch...

    Google “Starlink Photobomb”.

    And that’s just Starlink....

Yes, those are the ones raising altitude. At operational altitude the 'train' should be dispersed around the whole orbital radius for each 'shell'. And yes, most of the time at night they're in the earth's shadow. It's only near sunrise/sunset that they might be sunlit when observer is dark. And only in the orbital raising altitudes will the panels be facing towards the sun and providing high reflectivity.

Starlink is an especial issue because of a relatively low orbital altitude, a MEO/GEO sat is practically invisible since, you know, distance away from sun and inverse square law and all that.

Yeah, once Amazon and God knows which telecoms decide to each install their 40K worth of satillites shit is going to get real.

Ahh, you’re trying to do the Obi-Wan “you have no concern” Jedi mind trick on me. I appreciate the effort

I trust Chris Peat’s algorithms that show me, for every Starlink of every launch, when they’ll be visible from my location. I can do a time sample if you’d like

I hope Starlink lives up to the promise. I work with Farmers directly often and one of the things limiting their operations right now is reliable access to the internet. P2P internet is brutal slow and LTE coverage isn’t consistent, they think Starlink is the answer and I hope it is.

Spacecraft are nice, sorta. For internet you really want a hard line.
