Just tossing around some ideas and was talking with a user here and he mentioned putting third gen suspension on my second gen would net me around 1" of lift.

So I'm wondering if I could put the third gen stuff on my truck and add like a 1" budget boost to it for a total of 2" lift and get some fresh suspension from the low mileage third gens.

And are third gens front coil overs and rear leafs a direct bolt in for the 2nd gen?

I just put in a 3rd gen front coil/shock from an TRD Off-Road and I got a 1" lift. You're going to get a lot of different advice about the spacer, but I like the idea of putting in a spacer to get an additional 1" lift. I am pretty sure the rear leafs are the same and interchangeable. Not sure what kind of a lift you'll get with the leafs. Definitely get the shocks from a TRD model. I picked up the front strut assembly and rear shocks from a 3rd Gen TRD Off-Road for $250 with less than 100 miles on them. You just got to look around.

You can definitely do that. I added 3rd gen front coilovers to my 2nd gen plus a 3/8" thick spacer (provides 3/4" lift) and ended up with around 1.5" of total lift. Seems people round up to 1" when talking about 3rd gen suspension, seems for most it's a little less than that.

3rd gen provides no lift in the rear compared to the stock 4 leaf TSB springs but the new shocks are nice to have. I already had a 1" lift block in the rear and I think it looks about perfect now, just a tad higher in the rear.

This setup was super cheap, gave me new shocks and should be great while I learn this new-to-me truck. Eventually if I get more serious about using it offroad I'll upgrade to something better.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I can get new take off stuff for about $250 or so. Then a block in the rear. Will have to source a 3/4" spacer probably.

Im not gonna wheel this thing and dont think ill go much over my current tire size. I only camp and hunt/fish so dont need a lot of wheel travel. So im thinking 1.5-2" lift be great for just looks really.

Here’s how mine sits now. 3rd gen coilovers + 3/8” thick spacer in the front. Stock TSB leafs in the rear + 1” lift block. 265-75-16 Wildpeaks

I'll have to check later after work, if I forget feel free to send me a message to remind me. I took those measurements when I did the install but I don't think I kept the slip of paper I wrote 'em on.

I got 3/4" on the nose from 3rd gen TRD OR struts into 2015 SR5. Truck is new to me and I'm assuming the old suspension was factory. Cheapest lift you can buy and eats up washboard like a champ.

Why not just go with the Bilstein 5100? It’s adjustable from 0-2” and it cost around the $250.

For me....Still gotta swap or buy new coils. and definitely replace the mounts....therefore the cost goes up fast. third gen take off is a bolt on replacement and relatively simple.

Seems the 5100's are super common for people to run but when I was looking I just didn't see the benefit. I didn't need the added adjustability and based on all of the reading I did here it didn't seem like the 5100's actually had any performance benefit (due to valving) and may even be worse for my situation. The stock shocks are plenty good for me while I learn the truck and after that if I upgrade I hope to have honed in on exactly what type of shock will work for me. At this time I'm guessing it's going to be a soft, digressive shock. I want something that can smooth out rough fire roads, washboard roads...etc. After seeing how quickly washboard can DESTROY a shock I want to tread lightly on my current setup then find something better suited to that terrain down the road. It'll likely need to be an external reservoir setup if for no other reason than the extra cooling capacity.

I added 3rd gen suspension as well. Front gave me 1in lift and rear I also swapped out my 2+1 leaf and the 3rd gen leaf was a direct bolt on giving me a 0.5in lift. I added a headstrong 1/4 spacer lift to the front and a 1/2 toytec flat shim to the rear. Overall 1.5in lift in the front and 1in to the rear. Rides really smooth. I'm also running 265/75/16.
