On second thought OP, if you're trying to impress this co-worker, have at. Pull up in the truck with her in it. Walk into their house and without saying a word lumberjack that tailgate onto your shoulder and walk back out. Live stream the whole thing, send us the link.

Rent costumes and show up at Sherlock and Watson.
Unfortunately I think the PD wont have time for it rite now, but it is worth a call.
My pops had a bunch of tools stolen once. He gave accurate written descriptions, and an officer escorted him to a few pawn shops.
He ID a couple racks of end wrenches and the officer instructed the pawn shop to turn them over.
Dude stumbled for a min and cop told him he would open a full investigation on his shop.
    Dude said take them.

it could also be that your coworker is running an underground tailgate theft ring of her own, and fabricated the whole story in an attempt to manipulate you into taking out her competition

Make arrangements to meet the seller at a specific time at a specific place. Then contact the PD for that city and let them know what is happening. They will no doubt be willing to help out, they Usually do enjoy that kind of thing.

I believe they get credit for recovering stolen property, which is rare; so another reason they are willing to help out.

Lol. I like the spirit of this. Organize a dinosaur flash mob and while they’re busy run in and take your tailgate plus interest in the form of a remote control, frozen snacks, unplug all their appliances and leave dinosaur droppings on the way out.

In all seriousness (and there have been some good and funny suggestions here), I tend to follow the advice of Law Enforcement in these matters:

"Portland police detectives Dave Anderson and Dan Slauson strongly advise against anyone trying to recover their stolen items themselves without calling the police first."

Lots of sound advice on the Web about how to deal with these situations. For example:
    https://abcnews.go.com/blogs/techno...olen-stuff-on-craigslist-tips-on-what-to-do-2

What ever you do, I hope you take the safe path. Someone who will steal a tailgate and sell it on Craig's List could be the kind of person who is ready for trouble if you show up with. [ Edit: without ] the police.

Meet the seller. Shoot the tailgate with a 12 gauge shotgun at least three times, reserving several shots for your retreat plan. Go home and file an insurance claim for a new tailgate.

Sorry, this advice is coming from the Midwest. Just how we would handle it.

I’ve been all over. Nobody ever puts their money where their mouth is 99% of the time, Midwest included. Except Stockton. Obviously.
