    Hey Guys!

Looking for a recommendation for a friend who lives in Ft Lauderdale area. She wants to get a Prinsu installed on her 4Runner. Any suggestions for a reputable shop?

    Thanks!

Hey Skip, No it replaces the whole rack. Its something I would do myself but my friend there isn't so handy and doesn't have tools so she needs it installed. So looking for a reputable off-road shop to recommend to her.

Took the Creedmoor out to work on load development today. Didn't do anything impressive to the target, but it was sending 130gr Sierra TMKs out the business end between 2900 fps on the low end and 3100 fps on the high end. I was getting about 150 fps gains over book data with my 28" barrel vs their 24" test barrel. Got 3130 fps out of a 123gr Lapua Secnar on the high end. Shot a total of 40 rounds with free recoil, most of them hot and heavy, and I felt like I was shooting the AR afterwards...no recoil soreness at all.

However...I still have the 140gr and 120gr--30 rounds each--to go. We'll see if the 140s punish me any. I also have a primer problem. I bought some Winchester Match Grade Small Rifle primers and they are so soft, either my firing pin is piercing them or the case pressure is blowing them out into the firing pin hole on the bolt face. Even had one fail to go off on the first strike. I'm guessing it was due to bits of metal blown into the bolt causing a soft strike from the firing pin. I would suspect overpressured loads, but the cases displayed none of the signs except a tiny shiny spot on the head where they pressed slightly into the ejector hole on the hotter loads, but the bolt wasn't hard to open or anything so I know it's not a overpressure issue. I'm going back to regular WSRs for the Creedmoor. I'll try them in the AR and if they do the same thing...well...I don't know what I'll do with them. I can't see myself throwing away 900 primers. Nor can I see myself getting one of those Tubbs lightweight aluminum firing pins either, which is probably what those primers were designed for.

I'm thinking about going back on Friday if the weather holds to shoot the stuff I have loaded up for the AR.

I've seen a prime blown out like that, but only with a high pressure load with a heavy bullet seated into the lands and usually there were other over-pressure signs to go with it, like the bolt being hard to open and a much more pronounced shiny spot on the case head where the brass extruded into the ejector hole (which is why the bolt is hard to open). While these loads were moderate to high pressure, the bullets were seated off the lands .020" and it was happening with the 123gr Lapuas as well which are on the lighter side. I admit though, I've never seen a primer extrude into the firing pin hole like that without blowing out. It was just weird.

I just hope they work for the AR or I'm going to have a shit load of primers I can't use.

I don't think they are bad per say. I think they are designed to be soft for lightweight aluminum firing pins with close tolerance bushed firing pin holes that a lot of precision rifle actions use to get faster lock times between when you pull the trigger and the firing pin strikes the primer. I'm just using a factory Remington 700 steel firing pin and action with a factory firing pin hole which was probably designed to be able to handle the hardest primers produced (and given it's a .308 bolt face was mostly intended to be used with large rifle primers).

The AR has a different firing pin mechanism and I think it might be a little smaller. It's not driving as heavy a bullet either so they might work better in the AR. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

What about unloading and un priming and using a different brand primer ?On second thought if the firing pin spring was manufactured for a .308 round possibly changing it out to a lighter spring and see if that makes a difference.

I could do that if I was extremely OCD, but pulling bullets sucks. I only have 60 more rounds loaded with them and with my new Sinclair R700 Bolt Service kit, removing the firing pin from the bolt is simple so after these 60 rounds, I'll just take it apart and clean the carbon out (for the third time this year, when I've never actually done it before in all the years I've had the rifle). I have a box of regular WSRs on the way...which kinda sucked. They were hard to find someone that had them in stock and the box was ~$37, but the bill ended up being ~$70 after hazmat and shipping. I'm down to the last 200 in my old box (and by old, I mean I bought them in 2003 or so and they still function flawlessly). If those Match grade one's don't work for the AR, I'll have to get another box at the rate the AR goes through ammo, but I can probably couple it with more powder. The Creedmoor uses a lot more powder than the AR. I used probably 3/4 of a pound loading 100 test loads. I do have another pound of powder I'm going to try in it, but it's a fairly fast powder so I'm not sure it'll compare favorably to the RE 17 with giving me higher velocities.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't care much about MV, but for a long range rifle is pretty important. The faster it gets to the target, the less time it has for wind, spin drift, etc... has to take it off course...and the less the bullet drops.

Ball joint spacers and lift blocks, am I doing it right?
The wife and kids got me some cool gun parts for my birthday, which was in April. Larue tactical has been a little behind with Covid and then adding bunch of new CNC machines.

For 80 bucks Larue make a great AR trigger. The mount is for my 1-6 Vortex, which is sitting in a non-quick release mount right now.

Looking good so far. I'm actually thinking of finally building a bumper and getting rid of the heavy tube one. I mainly want a spot for my winch and a nice big skid plate.
