If you use a co-signer, the dealer will be making the financial deal with the co-signer. The dealer doesn't care one way or the other, they get their money.

It won't matter, the only time it matters is when the dealership says "your going to need a co-signer with significant income or we can't finance you"

I hate to say it but some one is really Stupid. Co Signing for any one is really Stupid. If you fail to pay and screw up the truck the Co Signer gets it in the ASS.

I disagree, I think it's great that someone will help him out. If he screws it up, it will follow him for a long time, and he will have burned a bridge.

Back on topic. Don't talk financing with the dealer till you have the price set and you are happy with it. Don't mention payments, nothing. As far as the sales person is concerned, you just want to talk about the truck. After you have a deal on the truck that you like, and its on a piece of paper provided by the dealer, then ask what APR's they are quoting, if they are too high, be prepared to walk away.

x2. I did that for my kid sister and wreck my credit 2 yrs into it because of late payments. That loan finally fell off my credit 7 yrs later but I will never do it again. There's a reason someone needs a co-signer, they don't have credit, bad credit, or just don't make enough to afford it. There is absolutely no benefit in being a co-signer. Sorry OP for ranting but to answer your question, you don't have to let the dealership know because they will run your credit, crunch the numbers and tell you if you qualify. If you don't,then you can bring in the co-signer. Just hope the co-signer has enough credit to help you qualify. GL.

I signed for my sister as well years back, took it hard in the ass too. I had to pay off a loan for a car I didnt have. Never even tried to give me a few bucks towards it even in later years. it strains a family. I can do a whole thread on this....
