I use k&n also. I do a fair bit of offroading and the filter is dirty after a couple months. Being able to wash it every oil change saves me a lot of money

I typically use the EP Auto ones also; they're good quality and inexpensive. Whatever you get, buy online as they really rip you off on these at local parts stores.

I just replaced my cabin air filters in 3 Toyota’s (FJ Cruiser, Tacoma, RAV4) The filters appear to be substantial and robust. All 3 filters had different model descriptions so consider this a a general description from Amazon.

The Toyota part number is 87139-YZZ09 and even if the parts person charges you full list price it should be $19.60. Asking $74? That's just insulting when with just a little bit of Googling you can get them for $14.

It's not a fancy charcoal infused artisanal cabin filter but I personally liked that the Toyota filter had the U.S.A. as country of origin and the Fram was China. Does it make a difference? Not likely, but I dunno.

Compare to ripoff dealer pricing maybe. A particulate filter is only $3.50: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1308533&cc=1431544&jsn=391

Certainly, well put. I think the general point is that you should absolutely be addressing this sort of basic maintenance yourself. If you're paying someone to change a cabin air filter (especially throwing ~$74 at a stealership), then you've been "had" and taken for someone who knows absolutely nothing about their vehicle. Find out what works for you - low cost, paper filter or higher cost, washable... just please don't piss your money away!

I’d suggest screening the inlet under the cowl as a debris filter because rodents can still get down against that screen and make a nest . Plus the one you made restricts a lot of air flow just my .02¢ the inlet mod is somewhere on here and I forget who wrote it up (props to them) but I know it’s around

    none yet
Had a new one when I bought the truck in July
    Then the fires hit
I pulled the filter out, and the pleats were full of ash and bunt out cinders (yes, I should have taken a picture) would have gone right through that window screen.

Right after I read that comment of mine about the cabin air filter I thought to myself "damn, I'm gonna have to prove/change it now". LMAO
