it is the lid for a keepsake box, but I will have to put a backer board glue up. It just will not remain flat without warping.

it just has so many different grain directions as humidity changes it twists. It is down to just over 3/8th from starting at 15/16th skip planed. It was also kilned to fast according to the my friend that runs the lumber mill. He said he had to run it fast to get it done in time for.a cabinet maker order. It was in the leftover pile.

Might be a crazy idea..but maybe encase it in an epoxy? Then you can square up the epoxy but keep the beautiful wood?

You know I thought about that. It might seal it enough to prevent moisture transfer. It might be almost enough and the wood bend the epoxy.

What if you literally encased it into say 1 inch or 3/4 inch of epoxy then take it down to the thickness you needed?

I doubt the wood could bend epoxy. That stuff is tough as can be when cured.

That would look awesome covered in epoxy.

If you are interested in epoxying it this is how I would do it. Place Tyvek tape on the surface underneath your work. Epoxy will not stick to the back of the tape easily. I would use even more but this is an example in yellow below. I would have it go underneath at least 3/4". It might not stick to the tape but it's stronger than superglue on anything else. The I would hot glue the middle (the blue below) so it won't budge while the epoxy is setting.

I would use 24 hour cure epoxy , faster might burn it. After 24 hours gently pry it off the mounting surface and sand where needed. When epoxing the other side be careful not to use too much or it will drip on your good side. Place a block underneath the middle of the work where the epoxy cant reach.

Here is an example on Walnut. I almost have this done but we keep getting wonky weather, too hot or too cold.
