OK I just bought it 2009 Tacoma recently that had a hard toneau cover retraxone mx
    (Non slotted rails)

I do not wanna spend the $400 to buy the XR rails that are slotted can I mod the ones I already have like just cut the plastic so I can get to the original spots I would mount rack.

I was looking at the Yakima hd overhaul.
    Any input would be awesome

I did the yakima rails on my Lock N Roll tonneau. It worked out ok. In the install they show screwing it down. The issue is that anyone can unscrew it. I went to ACE hardware and found furniture stainless nut thing. Cut them to fit in the grove of the yakima. Worked like a champ. Just screwed them in from the back side.

Not sure what the cost was. I did it like 4 or 5 years ago before it was offered anywhere by any cover company. As well I got them at cost. But the rack i got from the junkyard and added 66in poles.

The holes to hold down the track I think it predrilled for the most part. I think i only drilled for the screw for the end cover.

I often use this with the standard size Load Warrior and a water proof bag that is available at REI. I ended up getting the bag from someone on eBay for dirt cheap. I have enough pole width to run the Load Warrior and bike racks without stacking them together, like you can. It offers most of the space of a shell and flexibility of multi-tasking. With the ability to remove when it becomes the daily driver again, in order to reduce wind drag. I'm actually thinking about longer bike trays for the Steelhead rack. As 27.5 mtb just fits right on the very end. I still think about a shell but this works well enough that I can avoid that extra cost.
