What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Ditched the stock speakers for some infinity 6x9s up front 6.5s in back from crutchfield. Had a great sale going and I’ve always had positive experiences with them. Definitely an improvement. Crutchfield includes free install hardware and I added some of those foam speaker surrounds. Install was easy enough if you’ve done anything similar.

However, once I got the rear door panel off (AC) the rear speakers use a different harness as of 2020. Searched around the forums and found out the harness in the attached photo is the correct one. Threw the door panel back on w/o speaker plugged in, ordered, waited, worked like a charm. Also the harness from red wolf was nicer than the metras from crutchfield.

anyway, long post, also ordered an RCI steel front skid. Was thinking about aluminum but after reading around I’d rather be safe then sorry. May go aluminum for tc, transmission and fuel tank though in the future for weight.

I did the same about 2 weeks after I bought my 2017. I did fond the Metra harnesses a bit flimsey and had to tighten them up to get a good contact.

Anyone know if any you have to switch over the insides on this for our trucks or is it good to go as it is?

I wonder why no one has made an adapter for this setup to use the older top of the engine mounted oil filter housing on the older 2005 2nd generation engines? Rubber hoses brought the oil to and from that oil cooler housing where the filter went. It was so easy and oil drip free due to how the filter housing was shaped and even had a drain plug to drain the slightly spilled oil from the housing. I would place a plastic cup under that drain wedged in the hoses and belt and all the oil leaked from the filter when removing it went into that cup. A folded paper towel afterwards swiped inside that catch area cleaned all the dripped oil out of it as well. No mess whatsoever! I would buy one of these adapters in a heartbeat. No more messing with the cartridge crap, use the normal D3 spin on oil filter.

Has anyone made one of these I may not be aware of and or have I spurred some interest?

 

those are the speakers I’ve been using for a while now. They sound perfect in the truck, I’m actually really surprised

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised! after a couple days they sounded even better. Was worried about being underpowered on the SRs stereo but it’s pretty solid. Never had a bad experience with infinity this is the third vehicle I’ve used them on.

 

2017 Tacomas do not have BSM.

Heat has 2 wires in the corner of the mirrors. That's all.

 

Hit 100k, kicked the crap out of a stubborn front diff drain plug, changed the nastiest gear oil I've ever seen and installed a BAMF front skid.
