I live in Southern California, and I've been to 5 Toyota dealerships trying to purchase/lease a 2020 Tacoma Off-Road 4x4.
One of them mentioned that there's a $5,000 markup because of low supply due to the COVID-19 situation.

I do see that supplies are low, and different dealerships are kind of saying the same thing that it might be another 3-4 months before they get new inventory.

Will I be able to get better deals if I wait?
Any idea if this markup is going to go away soon?

Don't lease a Tacoma. It's the best truck to buy. Holds it's value better than any other truck. 2 years later, mine is worth almost what I paid for it.

Opportunists, I just checked the local dealer website, they're still discounting Tacoma's.

Holds its value would also be a reason it would be a truck to lease, as depreciation is a big part of the lease payment and it’s probably worth more than the buyout at the end of the lease. If you want to buy, buy, if you want to lease, lease. Whatever you are comfortable with

Damn you really drank the kool-aid. You've already made 3 years of payments and spent $3500 down. I don't care how cheap the buyout is, it will not be as cost effective as buying from the begining. Plus there is 0% interest on a new Taco right now.

I didn’t say you should lease. I said as vehicles go, Tacoma isn’t a bad one to lease. If that’s what you want to do. And nobody said you had to put 3500 down, just like you don’t have to put 10,000 down when you buy. Everyone has different financial situations.

No tacoma should ever have a markup. Period!!

SoCal has the worst dealers. Dont go to any dealer in riverside county that's for sure. Literally the worst.

You can try Longo in El Monte. They are okay. Just know what you want to pay and stand your ground. That dealer prides themselves in selling the most Toyota's in the country. They dont wanna lose their title so they are willing to lose money on some sales to keep that title.

There's a "what did you pay" thread on this forum. Go there and know what you should be paying.

Yep...closing that gap between cap cost and residual is the key to a lease. The residual is most often predetermined but negotiate the hell out of that cap cost.

I live in SoCal too and ended up buying out of state. It was waaaaaaay cheaper to buy out of state and get it shipped. Do that!

I got my truck about a little over a week ago. Got it used out of a Hyundai dealership in Arizona. How it works is you pay whatever states tax you buy the truck from. You have to make sure it has 50 state’s emissions (which I believe all Toyotas have). If it’s used you have to smog it and take it to the DMV for inspection. At the DMV you either get back if you paid more than CA taxes or you pay the difference and that’s it. You’ll for sure get a better deal out of state. At least that was my experience

For most vehicles yeah, but for toyota trucks idk. Depends on where you live I guess. Tacoma's with 10k miles are being sold for almost the same price as new, especially certified ones. I know for sure in socal, it's not worth it to buy used especially if you wanna finance since new is 0% apr.

Maybe I'll get proved wrong who knows.
