    Granted I'm 2nd gen...
I've got the OPs wheels and tires still, almost bald, but still on the truck and get daily driven and wheeled. I'm running spidertrax spacers too. I rub just slightly at stuff, not sure where, not bad enough to care or worry really so I never looked further. Also, no CMC.
We both frequently wheel with people on 285 and spacers, to clear the UCA. Most do run spacers on the various stock wheels.

Not sure if there is a wheel well difference or not, but I rubbed a little at stock with 255s at the rear of the tire, on the mud flap hump I think. If your tires are bald, you could be 1/2" smaller and if you have enough caster, you could probably be about exactly where I was. Maybe a little better of mud flaps were removed. At least on a 3rd gen, if you want to run spacers on 255s, I would expect a CMC may be necessary to avoid disappointment. I haven't tried it to give any facts though.

thanks, this is pretty much what I was wanting to do when my stock tires are done. Already have the spacers and will do the lift and re-gear when I get the new tires.

Never said optimal anywhere. But still think if you wanna spend the time to do the chalk test, you will get better tread wear. Again, for the reasons I stated.
If you want optimal, do the paint test. Longer, high speeds.
If you blindly take things out of context, you end up in a situation where you do the chalk test on a motorcycle and die.

Personally, I like higher mpg. Going from 17 to 18 mpg over the course of 65k miles saves almost $600 at $3/gal. If new tires cost twice that, I don't think I can go 130k by lowering pressure to what chalk test says.
Ignoring suspension wear. Ignoring opportunity cost. Ignoring tire warranty. Ignoring UV/air damage.

No flaps on me, truck can't fly. I did trim about 1/2" at the lowest part of the flare, by the body mount.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about the TRD T4R Pro rims (17x7) for the Taco. I'm also thinking about 255/70/17 or 255/75/17, and finally 245/75/17. Here's the breakdown below, on height and poke from tiresize.com. I'm a little nervous that while they are less than 33's, they poke out a little more. For those of you that may have done this particular combo, any feedback out there? For those of you that have done the 255/85/16 on the stock OR and had rubbing, was it from the inner tire or outer tire?

    Thanks for any feedback.

    Tire___________Height__________Extra Poke
    245/75/17______31.5"___________0.43"
    255/70/17______31.1"___________0.63"
    255/75/17______32.1"___________0.63"

Damn, I wish the forum didn't delete additional spaces in Courier font! Or any font for that matter.

Mine was the outside tire edge that would hit the mud flaps at turn and flex. Not much though. Not enough to even mess the plastic up.

Doh.... that's what I was fearing. The T4R Pros are going to push me out just a little, which would make this worse I think. I don't know if only having 31.5" would be safe though which is what I'm hoping for. I suppose I could play it safe and get Discount to order me in 2 sets and if the taller set rubs, fall back to the shorter set.

I have falken at3w's on the sema's. I had to remove the front flaps due to rubbing and they list at 31.6. It really depends on your alignment.

Are the SEMAs the same as what I'm looking at? 4mm offset?

<edit> PS, are you pretty happy with the SL rating?

    Alright back on track here
    :threadjacked::ohsnap:

finally got the Cooper ST MAXX! :eek:255/85/16 on stock TRD Pro wheels. Got the spare underneath too. Did the spare tire relocate and it fits nice and tight with a lil wiggling. I think they look sick! They ride pretty nice so far. I took them out on a drive over a mountain pass, on the highway a short stretch and then on the 4wd trail behind the house. Performed great! Even got stuck in a lil snow. I might put the rear mudflaps back on and save some people behind me:thumbsup: Hopefully I can save up enough before summer is over for some sliders!

I have 255/85R16s on stock OR wheels. I have experienced some rubbing twice in the exact same place while driving down a steep sand embankment while turning hard to the left. I think this resulted in a fully stuffed wheel at full lock or close to that. I don’t know where it rubbed, but I suspect the firewall or body mount. I think I have room to move the wheel forward in the wheel well to hopefully prevent the same thing in the future.

Appreciate it. I’d probably go with 16’s, but the tire selection is pretty thin in the 255/85/16. Mostly E rated and more aggressive than AT.

The SEMA T4R wheel pushes out 0.83” compared to the stock OffRoad is what challenges the same setup in the 17”.

Looks good, what tire pressure are you running? I'm currently at 35 cold 40 warm. Way better in town than at 45 cold the dealer had them at. Still seems a little harsh and squirrelly on interstate at times. I just have to pay more attention than before I guess.

I got mine from my local 4 wheeling shop. They put em at 33 cold 35/36when warmed up. They suck up cracks and sewer caps way better than the stock tires:D I was thinking bout playing with the pressure a bito_O I’d say the tires in general are a bit more squirrely on the highway/corners but that was my expectation with a taller tire that is way more aggressive than stock. Most of my driving is on mountain roads under 50 mph though:thumbsup: I see a lot of guys disappointed, expecting MT tires to perform as good or better on pavement than a more dedicated all season or AT tireo_O a bit unrealistic IMO
First time I took stock tires off road I got a flat:mad: I’ve heard the Coopers are bomb proof so I shouldn’t have to worry about that anymore

Ya I have the same experience running mine at higher speeds. Any idea if running wheel spacers to space them out a little would add more stability?

I finally got away from my bf Goodrich 285/75/16 and now have Cooper ST MAXX 255/85/16s. For the past few months I thought my lift was causing the ride to be so terrible but it turns out it was just the 285s. Only had the tires on about 50 miles but they are great so far. 9EAC7AD5-0194-4780-9F02-48E5E7B83D34.jpg 83A0662C-8E19-40FE-A862-345E28E3F259.jpg FBEFE0E0-0BB3-45EE-9A51-6494D58342B9.jpg

I doubt it. Just something to be aware of, I would think with smaller footprint and the added benefit of less highway traction from off-road tires this just is one of the things that happens. Anyone else got anything:notsure:
