Hertz Bankruptcy Tacoma Inventory

With the news of the Hertz bankruptcy, I was curious about their Tacoma inventory. Here is what my search turned up.

Holy shit, Do not buy a rental. People abuse the shit out of them.

 

The one in Oregon says Rear wheel drive, so really its a TRD on road. Maybe the others are 4wd off road.

 

Thats not true. I bought a 2001 jeep Grand cherokee, from a rental fleet with 12k on it and my daughter drives it to this day.

 

My ex Jeep rental needed new heads. Thankfully it was still under warranty. Never again

 

How is this different with any low-mileage used vehicle?

Can confirm I absolutely agree with rentals. Every single person I know pushes a rental car including myself. That being said know what you're getting into they do regular maintenance

Your problem wasn't the ex. rental, it was FCA. Let me guess a pentastar right, they all needed new heads - took them like 4 revisions to get one to last a decent period of time.

 

Well people typically treat cars they own better than cars they rent. I have a son-in-law whose in upper management for one of the larger rental car companies and I wouldn't buy one.

Not quite the case if people know they'll be getting rid of the car after a year or two.

There was one member on TW who got a $900/mo. car allowance, so he leases Land Cruisers and not bother to change the oil for the duration of the lease. He probably isn't alone in doing this.

 

I just searched the Hertz site. Found 3. 2 were 4x2 and a white TRD off road 4x4 they wanted 34k for with 21,000 miles. Oh and it was a 2019. You could get a new one for not much more.

I'm not sure I'd buy a used rental. Isn't that like going to a house of ill repute to find I wife?

 

I said typically, meaning most of the time, not isolated incidents.

 

Typically rental cars are driven normally as well.

He's going to have anecdotal stories. You can also talk to a dealer mechanic for stories of new cars falling off lifts and getting repainted before delivery. Doesn't mean they are the norm.

Think about circumstances where a non-rental vehicle would be sold after just a couple of years. It could be a lease return, a repo, or a lemon. People neglecting maintenance on leased cars is quite common.
