You guys are some heavy duty traders here! Are you up or down for the year so far through this madness?
I had my money sunk into bonds at one point but circumstances now have me in stock.
Yeah those bail bonds took most of my money but heavy into stock now, cardboard stock, I got 1800 pounds cardboard boxes broke down out back gonna sell em to recycler when I get a full ton.

Hey folks, been watching this thread for quite a while. Was going to open a brokerage account when the big drop happened a couple of months ago but I procrastinated too long (and was a bit nervous to jump in).
So another drop happens and I opened my account, funding should clear on Monday.

I was thinking about some NRGU if I can pick it up sub $5. Is there any reason that is better than GUSH, this has more volume and might be easier to exit. Plus it was trading around 1600 and is now in the 40's. Would get less shares for the same money but maybe more upside?

Still researching but also don't want to miss out on potential gains. Trying to keep track of all the suggestions that were posted here.

nrgu is a good buy under 10. It’ll probably recover to 30 relatively easily. I’m hoping to see 50.xx though :D

Gush could be a good buy too. Seems like it’s being held around the 40 to 60 mark right now. Maybe because there’s no production and exploration going on right now. If they recover that would be great. I’ll probably ignore my own advice and not buy any shares though. :D

I've become addicted to this tread over the last couple months reading it everyday trying to learn. I guess I'm a conservative investor? I have been contributing fairly heavily to my 457b for the last 10 years but the fund choices are limited so it makes it fairly easy to choose there. I opened an account with fidelity and was going to jump in with my vegas money at the end of March and pussed out, what a mistake! Trying to pick some things up from you guys but its pretty foreign to me. I bought 42 shares of NRGD at $21.44 (whoops) and 20 of USO at $24.52 on some recommendations here, will see what happens. Someone brought up NKLAW a few pages back, the commercial truck version of tesla. The 52 week H/L $.42 / $33 and its at $23.02 today. Seems like over the next 5 to 10 years sky could be the limit on that one? Any advice on anything for someone trying to learn. And yes, I will keep contributing to my 457b for the long haul, I'm only playing with my vegas money with my fidelity acc.

Sure. In a very oversimplified way, market cap is what drives the DOW, NASDAQ, and S&P. There's been a lot of discussion about these big swings coming from RH and other day traders lately. I've always said it was not the case. Using the market cap let's take a look at what they might be able to do.

Let's say that there was 50M new accounts since March. And I'm being very generous here.
Let's say they all put in $10,000. Again, very generous.

That's 500B worth of market cap. Yeah, it's a lot but it's not even half of AAPL market cap and that's just one stock. The S&P 500 has a market cap of 28T. The overall market cap of every stock traded publicly is well beyond my Google skills but it's probably in the 100T range.

Some simple math should make it pretty clear new day traders aren't behind the markets rise or fall. lol

Let me help you out here for a second NRGD is an inverse 3X leverage to fund it is the opposite of NRGU. Any day that NRGU (The big 10 oil stocks) go up NRGD goes down. In my opinion NRGD is a day trading in and out. You hop in early on days when you see nad oil news and get out. Don't hold it overnight unless you have a hot tip and share it with the group. In a bull market NRGD is suicide.

I think I've made my opinion clear...but I am enjoying my personal favorite. I've yet to find a better sub $60 bottle than Talisker. Oh man...

It's interesting that they have access to that kind of data. I wonder if that's anything like the draft Kings fan duel insider betting issue where knowing other's money dispersals showed them how to effectively bet against the group but knowing before hand which players were of the greatest value. I wonder if this creates a situation where they can spot stocks that are overbought by inexperienced investors and they can take advantage of that by shorting them...it wreaks of improper leverage.

Thanks for the explaintion of NRGD Treefort. Maybe I'll take my losses and get out today while I'm only down a couple hundred or so and chock it up to learning. I think I'm more of a long haul guy but jealous of you guys day trading and killing it! I'll be here on the sidelines.

I'm with you. I slowly plodded my way to 7 digits and don't see how that isn't enough money for the rest of my life. At times it feels like I'm leaving money on the table not going aggressivly after these sure thing investments.

I love the thread even if I'm not one of you bowling balled guys.

I imagine most of the activity is just because of the crazy way everything dropped. I usually don’t do much day to day, but there were some opportunities to get good returns short term before moving the money into my long term holds. I imagine when there arent the day to day swings, a large number of the robinhood accounts will be inactive. And it will probably quiet down in here also. The slow and steady approach works through all markets.

Trust me, in another 10 years when I'm at 7 figures, my strategy will change greatly. I'll set maybe 5% aside for high risk plays. The rest will be in blue chips. I've got the time to take losses. When I'm closer to retiring I'll be much more risk adverse. It's all about your psychology and risk tolerance. I've always been a type A risk taker in life. From hobbies to trading. It's in my genes. lol
