2019 front rail

Just bought a 2019 Tacoma. Purchased a hard top and realized the front rail on the bed is 1\4" higher than side rails thus creating a gap between side of bed and topper. Anyone know why they did this? I filled gap with foam stripping but thought gap is strange?

 

The topper should have been designed to account for this.

2nd gen Tacomas don't have the square tube on the headboard, so the front rail is about an inch lower than the side railcaps. Some tonneaus use a "garage door" bulb seal there, about the size of a bicycle tire, to fill the gap.

 

That is strange your cover wasn't made to fit, unless you repurposed an old top from a previous generation or different brand truck?

 

To be clear, you purchased a topper, not for your vehicle off craigslist, ebay, or the street corner?....lol. These guys will go bat shit crazy if you indicate you bought a "brand new, 2019 ARE topper specifically designed for your truck"....You know what I mean.

It is a Tyger 5, new, redid installation with neighbor who has had several toneau covers. The front rail with the 2 screw holes on Tacoma has no adjustment and is a 1\4" high than sides ofwof bedybed no matter what you do? Put strips of weather stripping down side of bed about 16"s seems fine. Just seems strange that front rail is higher than sides of bed. Thanx for all the input
