New VFtune install

From OV tune. Copy and paste.

This is why I want it.

We have found, through extensive testing and code analysis, how to eliminate the torque model changes when you change gears. This is exclusive to OVTune and took hundreds of hours and months of testing to figure out. This is by far THE BEST change that can be made to the tune to make this truck more drive-able. On the stock calibration, each gear has it's own Torque Model. This means the response from the engine is different, and unpredictable, in each gear. Driving a manual transmission REQUIRES that you know how the engine responds when you apply throttle. However, in the Tacoma, the throttle is applied differently for each gear and neutral.
This means you either need to remember how EACH GEAR drives, and independently change how you apply throttle in these gears to create a smooth driving experience, or flash our latest calibration, which eliminates all of this and creates a 1:1 predictable throttle output, regardless of gear.

 

I realized I could of downloaded and installed VF tune on Thursday right after I bought it. I thought I had to wait until they contacted me, but that is not the case.

 

Here is the email I got back from Mike at Tactrix. He wanted to let us know his hardware also works with Toyota Techstream.

I currently have the OV tunes and think it’s the 2.0 version. Bought it around Christmas time. However now I’m seeing this VF tuning. Is this the same as OV tunes? The tuning definitely does make the truck come alive especially in the performance tune. However you do lose a little MPG in that one. Haven’t run the 87 tune yet.

 

Vf-tuner-software is by OV tune. I think they very recently released the MT tunes updates, and are about to release the new 2.0 for AT truck's. That is my understanding and I do not represent VF or OV

 

Matt sent my master key, waiting for it to be keyed into system tomorrow when their 3rd party allows it. VF tune installed, OV tune installed, Tactrix drivers installed. Hooked everything up to the truck. It is all still greyed out. I can not id my ecu yet. Tonered helped me with a techstream download, so I am on to that now. Thank you Tonered! You have been a big help already, and I really appreciate it.

 

Techstream installed and registered. Tonered deserves kudos! His instructions are clear and concise. Techstream is pretty amazing.

 

Oh the reasoning for Techstream, is you need to know your ecu id. Your ecu id changes with TSB ecu updates. Vf-tuner-software says it works best with a updated ecu ID. So after work tomorrow I will check my ecu id with Techstream, update or not as needed, then if I get my registration key install a vf 3.5 pack.

Updated ecu to 4b1300 using techstream download from tonered and instructions from Ruggybuggy.

Not very hard at all. Kind of a pain in the butt, but not impossible.

Waiting to get my registration validation from VF tune to flash in my tunes. They are just incredibly busy. I hope they make a fortune for all the work they have done.

 

New ecu calibration. 8966304b1300.
This will matter when I/you download my/your tunes.

As is, you have plenty of OV Tunes accessible to you. But also, there will be tunes for 04B14 / TSB-0034-20. This new TSB is discussed at the end of the MT Software Update thread. Just choose carefully when spending vF credits as this new stock tune is a very nice baseline.

 

Ok if you haven't done the TSB to update ecu calibration to 4b1300 it would be a good idea to do that even if you never buy OV VF tune. The tactrix openport II and Tonered's signature will help.
It feels much better in 1st to 2cnd to 3rd. No noticeable changes after that so far. Seems to be more matched in the power as you go thru the gears.

IMHO driving around with 04B14 Stock for a couple tanks now, I often forget that I am stock. Something will feel a bit not like the tunes and I have to remember that I am on a Stock tune. It is a bit weird that it feels this good.

Yes sir. Thank you. I value your opinion on this. I think based on this I will use my credits for the 4b13 ecu, then later if I decide to see what OV does with the 4b14 I will just spend the 75 dollars and go with it.

 

The tunes are great no matter what.

 

I received the registration key from Matt at OV/VF tune. I should have a tune installed this afternoon after work. I am already running premium to prevent detonation, and I don't have any love for Atkinson cycle, gonna have to go for the Full Otto cycle, Octane Learning, Premium Fuel Super Tune. Aaaaahhh ahhhhhh ahhhh aaaaahhhhhhh!

 

Flashed in 4b13 Super Full Otto Octane Learning Premium Fuel Tune. Relearning idle now, then testing.
This is not a difficult process, and is much much much easier than it seems. I am just absolutely impressed with the professionalism of OV/VFTUNE and Tactrix. I will report back with drive testing results later tonight. I can already feel the idle leveling out. I am very excited to see what it does.

 

Vf-tuner-software for the win. That is amazing. No more light switch feel, shifting gears puts you right in the power for the next gear. Slight burbble on decel when down shifting. It just feels right.
