Haha no worries thanks for checking it out at least. I wish I knew a mechanic, I would definitely buy them a case to check this out.

Is there anyone with a 2020 out there that can confirm if they hear this noise?

Its sorta random noise kinda like timing chain slap but sounds like its on the outside of engine to me. Not a steady lifter tick or fuel injector tick. More rattly. I hope you can find it. Would drive me nuts too.

Thanks man. My oil pressure is fine, oil looks good and I’m getting decent gas mileage. It’s gotta be timing chain or something. I can’t find anything though

Also I only hear the sound at low speeds. Do pulleys speed up with the RPM’s?

Its doubtful it would be a pulley with the low miles on your truck, but you would have to remove the serpentine belt then grab each pulley by hand and see if there is any play in each of the pulleys. It would have to be quite a bit of slop to make that noise.

That’s a good point. Out of curiosity do you think the noise I’m hearing is piston slap or a spun rod bearing? I figured by now my motor would have blown with 5k miles but I’m not mechanically savvy.

Doesn't sound like internal engine noise to me.

Just started to noticed a sound a week or so ago when I first start up my 2017. I start it up, put it into drive, and then when I first go to accelerate I hear a couple click or tick sounds. Doesn't seem to happen at any other time, even at lights. I thought maybe its the fuel pump or injector clicking on or something, but it sounds like it's coming from just behind or under the steering wheel.

Strange stuff, but I'm taking it in this week for an alignment and inspection after someone hit my driver side rear tire a couple weeks back. Not sure if its related at all but I'll mention it and see if they can have a look at it.

Idk, about any tic noise. So far my 2020 has been pretty quiet. The engine at times does have more mechanical noises going on than past engines in truck's i've had. I have heard other toyota 3.5 v6 engines running, some are louder than others, just the nature of what they are.

Turns out that noise I was hearing was coming from my driver side from brake caliper, knocking back once the truck gets moving. Nothing to worry about but should be replaced when I do my brakes. Everything else checked out great and had my alignment done.

I do now hear that famous Tacoma Tick though which is funny. Likely always there but didn't notice until I really started to listen. Just something that makes the truck "unique" lol

Has anyone figured this out? It's driving me absolutely insane. The YouTube link doesn't seem to be working anymore but based on the descriptions and everyone's comments I'm almost certain it's the exact noise that my 2021 is making.
