    Does anyone know if pulling the fuel c/opn relay and cranking the truck over like you would for a compression test is a good way to prime the oil system for initial start up?

    Pull the spark plugs to remove the load while cranking and yes. As long as that relay kills the fuel pump.

    A flux retro-capacitance encabulator
    Oil will start flowing immediately when you start the engine, no need to prime it Imo. You'd just be cranking the engine over with little to no oil flow in your attempt to prime it.

    Unless I misunderstood what the purpose of priming it is, in this case.

    Pull plugs and disable fuel pump.

    It is true that the oil flows as soon as the engine is running

    BUT

    There are two benefits no plugs, no fuel that are often overlooked.

    1) when turning the engine with starter but no plugs or fuel, there is no stress or heat on components from combustion. So there is very little wear during this time.

    2) turning the engine with the starter and no compression actually turns the engine faster. So the oil primes quicker.

    So no combustion load and faster priming.

    As a side note, I’ve seen guys doing compression tests with fuel system still active. Big NO NO! You don’t want fuel spraying in the combustion chambers. This creates unnecessary wear because there is no lubrication on the cylinder wall due to the unburned fuel washing down the cylinder walls.

    Pull the fuel pump relay. If you have no oil pressure gauge, then crank until the tin man oil light goes out. Pop in relay. Good to go.

    Going with this, we don't know if it is a used engine, or a freshly built engine with assembly lube. Freshly built will have better clearances protections. Either case will benefit from the lack of spark plugs. Less load on the battery as well, if doing extended cranking due to the system being "empty ".

    pulling the plugs and killing the fuel system is the proper way stated by bmw when we put in new engine for do major internal work. we crank it that way for 10 seconds and let it rest for 30 seconds, 3-4 times. that way you dont over heat the starter. but yes i know. that is the germans though. :rofl:

    On a used engine, I with possibly "dry" cylinders, I have sprayed wd-40 in each spark plug hole. Leaving the plugs out. Helps prevent dry starts. Crank with plugs out.

    Boosted Money Pit....
    Any of you fine truck wizards rebuild shocks specifically king bypass? Reworking one of the bypass tubes and need to confirm they sent all the right parts. Online is generic and the parts are not exact for each shock. I’ll try some other threads but you guys usually cut out the BS.
