I'd get someone lined up but wait for 2.0 which should be coming soon. (Especially if you have travel a bit)

Thanks. This is the shit I need to know. I have no problem ordering whatever I may need from OV. I just don’t know what I need. I do know I will never be creating my own tune for sure.

I’m in the Syracuse area. I just ordered the Tactrix cable last night. I’m pretty computer savvy but know nothing about fuel injection tuning. If I figure everything out, I’ll shoot you a message after this “2.0 final” comes out.

That would be awesome. I am good with my hands so if you need anything welded or any suspension work I would be more than happy to reciprocate the favor.

Haha appreciate the offer. I was tech for over ten years so I’m pretty well set on the mechanical side, just looking to help another TW member for the good karma. I hate the gate-keeping that happens in a lot of industries. Hopefully what goes around comes around!

Thank you, sir! If I request 1.05.1 converted to vft, am I out of getting 2.0 as a vft? (I'm a reformed dongler, so I've had OVT for a while.)

Haven't seen much talk of folks modifying their tunes so thought I would throw in my experience so far. 2018 DCLB AT, was originally running ECU 04A60. In short it was terrible and I was ready to sell the truck at loss after the first year. Stumbled upon TacomaWorld and OVTune after googling my issues with the transmission. Finally I decided I might as well throw more good money after bad early this spring and went for the OVTune. Got on to 04A61 thanks to Tonered, and was running 2.0 beta 19800 build for a while but the 3-4 upshift still wasn't working for me. Now with vF Tuner I've got the shift points close to where I want and I can finally drive my truck without the gnawing desire in the back of my head to just drive it off a cliff. I find myself just going out for drives now just because I enjoy it, the truck actually feels peppy, and my gas mileage is up about 5-6% to boot!

04A61 STOCK file, with the only modifications (so far) to the shift points. Truck is stock mechanically.

I realize this isn't specifically a forum for this, and apologize if there is a better place, but just wondering if anyone knows of a way to read the existing ECU data and write it out as a file such that I could reload it later if I mess things up and be exactly at where I am now? Apparently the vf software doesn't have such capability, but I'm also not seeing how to do that in the Techstream software (v15.10.029) either. And with vf you have to trust that the existing "stock tune" files are actually exactly the same settings as you have in your vehicle right now, which I'm guessing is probably not the case. I'd be very surprised if every model of the same year has the *exact* same ECU data (except for the VIN) since some will have been flashed for recalls/TSBs by the dealer prior to being sold. The ability to able to save your current ECU data in a way that it can be reloaded to get back exactly where you are would be a very useful function in either program. Unless anyone knows of a program that can do this?

Apply the TSB for what ever version ECU you have with techstream.

The vFtuner stock files are the exact same as the stock file for the specific ecu ID.

Problem being that it won't connect to the TIS website to grab current data, due to having to run in offline mode (since I'm not a dealer I'm guessing.) But, I really don't want to get in trouble for hijacking this thread over a different software... :)

So does that mean that even applying a single TSB it rewrites the *entire* ECU code, thus changing the "ID"?

Depends on the tsb. If it's one for the ECU, it will write over whatever is there.

For example. I was on 04B03, I applied the tsb for the hesitation etc, and was then 04B04.

Then that is where my knowledge gap is, since I didn't understand that it would rewrite the entire ECU data stream. I was under the (mistaken) impression that applying a TSB is only the dealer updating a few "codes" in the ECU at certain memory locations, sort of like changing data in certain columns of a SQL table in a database. I didn't understand that it rewrites everything, thus changing the addresses (memory locations) of specific data values. NOW I understand why the vf software does it the way they do: it's because *any* change to the ECU data results in a complete change in the size and thus the location of each item, thus requiring them to analyze that new data stream and update their software to address the new locations.
    /lightbulb

EDIT: further thinking makes me wonder if that's the case, then how does the vehicle know where each item is stored in the ECU? Guess I need to do much more research for this to all make perfect sense to me.
EDIT EDIT: unless it is a serial thing and treats it like an XML dump. Which would mean it is stored as a stream of header:value pairs, and that would enable the vehicle to read in the entire thing at startup and then have everything in memory at once.

Think of a TSB like a windows update. The majority of it may be the same but there will be updates to tables or logic.

you just can’t uninstall it and go back to a previous one (not that you’d want to anyway)
