Had a 2008 FJ that wish I still had, went to two different Jeeps and now in the 2020 Tacoma Off-road. I have enjoyed the first 1000 miles for sure. 8A41C2C9-0686-476F-8E63-23B4FD30F228.jpg

I thought this was strange too.
Move the vehicles to the driveway, pull out to the BBQ pit and beer coolers, let's swim!

I went for a 2016 sr5, to a 2018 Trd OR manual, to a wrangler sport, then a wrangler rubicon and now back to a 2019 Trd OR fully loaded.

missed the bed too much, and the Jeep was a little too annoying to keep up with.
Leaked water, rattled all over, lifting the thing the right way was expensive as heck.

plus I needed to get some turf for my back yard and hard a Jeep to move it with.
That’s when I decided I need that taco.

Curious, which jeeps did you have? Were they manuals?

    I had 2, both auto.

I love manual jeeps but the trans isn’t as durable as the autos.

had a sport unlimited and a rubicon unlimited.

i couldn’t agree more, the jeeps are very off-road worthy but the peace of mind with a Toyota is unbeatable.

plus for the price you get 100% more equipment. Lol.

I have owned 3 4Runners, all 4x4. I had a 91, was rear ended and totaled, got a 95 to replace it, and I was plagued by the dreaded 3.0 V6 that blew out 6 motors, always rebuilt, but would always blow its gasket again within 6 months. Sold it to someone willing to swap a 3.4 in, and I got an ‘06 Frontier. Then hit by the strawberry milkshake, so I got a 14 4Runner. I had it for a while, but got a Tacoma to replace it.

4Runners are fantastic vehicles. One of the last true SUVs on the market. I love them, and still do. Currently, my life has more use for a truck; housework, riding MTB, camping, etc... that’s the only reason I’m in a Tacoma right now. Once my house is all dialed and kids start coming along, I will most likely go back to a 4Runner as it has full back seats and cargo space in the car for kid stuff.

4Runners and Tacomas are both pretty similar, but each has its strengths. The Tacoma gets much better mileage right now and has the bed space, but the 4Runner has more room inside for people/kids. The T4R has the rear trunk in the cab that is nice, not a place you really want to throw dirty gear or equipment. Both are very capable off-road, and both have a strong following. Someone told me that many customers of tacomas and T4Rs are repeat customers. People run them in to the ground and get a new one to replace it. I can agree as I’ve had 3 T4Rs and 3 tacomas. I love both, it just depends on hour uses. They used to be more equal with the same engines, and I’m sure they will again with the T4R redesign, but for now it still has the 4.0

Ya, Bought my 85 4x4 new for $7995. did the Rubicon a dozen times. By far the best offRoad truck I've ever owned. My 2020 was $31,600. I don't think it could do the same trails without lots of damage.

Favorite was the 91 4Runner (2door). IMO the Apex of 4runners.

Traded my 2011 TRD Sport DC for my 2016 Wrangler Rubicon. I love Jeeps but missed my Tacoma. Just bought the same truck I had 2020. The Jeep is now summer only and the truck is my main ride. It’s nice to be back!

First new vehicle I bought was an ‘86 Toyota pickup, 2WD, Xtra cab, manual. Traded it for a 6 cyl 4WD SR5 Xtra cab in ‘88; first year that engine was available and had to have it. After 14 good years I didn’t think I needed a truck anymore, so I bought a Volvo wagon, something I’d wanted for years. Big mistake, no sooner got the sucker paid off the repair bills ate me alive. Next was 2 Outbacks, great cars. But having decided we could use a truck again, bought a Taco. We love it.

Although I have an excellent Tacoma and I appreciate its quality, I am kicking myself for not getting the 4R.

I picked the Tacoma over the 4R mainly because of the MPGs... but I am definitely not a truck guy! I drive my 2004 Solara a lot more than the Tacoma, simply because I find it more practical as a daily driver.

All good stuff! Surprised no one has had anything crazy though... most jeeps and other Toyota’s.

If I trade I’m seriously considering the last EJ257 WRX STI or the F250 Super Duty down the road from me.

I think the Tacoma is the jack of all trades, but it leaves a lot to be desired in some ways.

I wouldn’t say Tacoma is a jack of all trades. It’s not pulling heavy trailers. It’s not a sports car. It’s not a luxury vehicle. It does very well in the capacity it was designed for. I think most complaints come from people buying it for reasons outside of its limitations
