    Overlays are quicker.

New black badges that you take the old ones off with fishing line and place new ones back on.

Besides, lot of people are spending their money on the mods for their trucks.

If people do not have time or not brave enough to replace the emblems, then they use overlays.

If people can replace, then they can buy black emblems then replace them.

Of course they can use plasticdip on them.

You can get away with using a jack/jackstand but I had my brother swing by and give a hand. I will say this; the front mounting holes are covered with plastic caps. They were invisible to me and my brother when installing and we started questioning ourselves. After some time we realized they were covered in dirt/dust and blended into the frame. Flat head will help with removing.

I assume you have to take them off to Plasti Dip them. My thought was if I have to take them off I might as well put new black ones on. Even still, the price of the OEM overlays is a bit off the top to me.

Found overlays about 10 dollars more from your $20 emblems:

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
I thought that initially, also, and was corrected. There are YouTube videos how to do it on the truck. I'm told it's easy.

For the benefit of any new owners out there.

Check with your local body shop. If they're not busy, they may do it for the cost of shop time and materials.

...or, you're in a major city on the Left Coast. You may have one of those "truck boutiques" not far from you.

<edit> Here's an interesting question: We in the frozen North have to deal with the effects of road salt (rust). I've heard people who live in coastal regions of the Southeast, where road salt isn't used, also complain of rust from the ocean air. Why is this not a problem on the West coast? I'm thinking of SoCal.

Still can't believe my 1988 4Runner has a glove box light, but my 2019 Tacoma doesn't.

Today I wired one in. Only works when parking lights are on, and is on a switch so it automatically comes on when the door opens

I worked and parked on the California coast for 35 years, within 50 yards of the ocean. Changed cars every 10 years or so. Never had any rust, anywhere I could see on my cars. Always made sure to wash and wax on a regular basis, and always kept them in the garage.

I used to live on a barrier island and anything and everything metal in the garage would rust away. Moved about 30 miles inland and no rust at all. Must be the salt air coming off the ocean. Maybe it blows towards the ocean on the west coast?

Installed Matt Gecko LED lights in the bed recently. Put the shell on today and you can really see the difference when on/off. Mounted behind Caliraised Molle side panels, but still provides a lot of light.

I know that the Atlantic Ocean has a higher salt content than the Pacific Ocean. Most of our winds on the Central Coast of California flow from the ocean to land. As the inland area heats up, it lifts air and draws the cooler air from the ocean. It’s our natural air conditioner. Sometimes it will reverse, we call it Santa Ana winds or sundowners, and the winds will blow from inland to the ocean and then things really heat up. Happens only a very periods during the year. I’m not a scientist, so these are just my observations having lived here for over 40 years.

Sounds like ya'll should have the same salt air we have. Wonder why you don't.

That's what I thought! I have no experience doing any kind of heavy mods like this but my dad helped me and it was honestly pretty easy
