Really read the instructions thoroughly. It took me quite a while to figure it out also. Almost need another device to read the instructions while your phone is hooked up

Sure your mic is plugged in and didn’t somehow come unplugged?

it took me a bit to figure out the app also. Obviously, download the app to your phone. Turn on tethering, connect it to the HU then open the app on the HU & connect.

It’s currently on the latest firmware.

Just got back after getting in the truck and figuring it out. That was the exact issue with connecting it, tethering and going into the app on the headunit. Now i need to figure out what happened with the microphone. It was connected physically, i turned everything off, reconnected it and still not working. I dont have another mic with the same connection, might try and find one local to test.

So as of right now, all is working except mic. Compared to the kenwood, this is a giant pain in the ass, however, this thing is beautiful. Thanks for info.

Considering I haven’t done a radio install in probably 20+ years I didn’t have an issue. It just takes me a bit to learn the new features since I’ve been using the OE HU for the last 3 years.

I contacted the seller if this harness. He said the Big screens are tricky and this would only bypass the brake. I told him he should update his listing because the only thing people use these for is having video while driving. He has not responded again. So I take it as a NO it won’t work. Lol

Also Really make sure it is plugged in MIC spot. There is another hole it will fit in labeled SWR or some like that. The MIC input is up towards the top

How about using the parking break bypass or the software bypass then have like a switch for the gps wire to disconnect power. Does video work if you have the GPS wire not plugged in?

I feel like an idiot but hopefully this info can help others. So I haven't had an issue installing a headunit in a car until now. Including a Kenwood DMX957XR 2 weeks ago, that I am returning because i wanted more screen.

A few mistakes made along the way.
Make sure on the front "home screen" you swipe to see more options like "caravassist". I attemped to do this off the bat, but i think my finger was in the wrong area, i was unable to swipe and see more options. Once i tried a different area and swiped, i saw more options like caravassist and was able to finish installing properly. Along with that, I assumed that using bluetooth and/or wireless carplay (and wired) was enough to connect the caravassist. It wasn't. As CH78 suggested, you HAVE to tether and use the caravassist icon that i previously couldn't swipe over for. I was finally able to get full functionality on the headunit doing this. Frustrating that they make you jump through such hoops, but whatever. The kenwood was LIGHTYEARS easier to set up and had ZERO hiccups. The kenwood has a >7 screen, so these "hiccups" are worth it.

Ok, for my biggest idiot mistake..... I thought i did a good job with the wire running it all the way to the OEM location, however, there was a small area on the A Pillar that the cord got bunched up, when i screwed in the A Pillar, the bunched up area I didnt see was damaged (not cut, but damaged enough to prevent it from working). So note to others, don't be an idiot like me. Oh well, lesson learned. Hopefully i can find another mic locally that has a 2.5mm mic with a cord that long, otherwise i have to wait until next week for Amazon to deliver a new one.

    Hope my mistakes help someone.

That’s why I just tucked mine in and didn’t remove panels. It was easier that way also.

Glad you got it figured out.

Great tips!! thanks. Was there a big update for the firmware?, and when you said tether are you talking about making your phone a hotspot or using the USB to your phone?

    Thanks again.

    There’s no update currently.

Ok, so my question is, why are we hooking up the adapter for the factory GPS antenna if this head unit does not have navigation? If its just going to use the nav from my iphone when i use car play...... then I feel like the only thing the factory GPS antenna is doing is preventing me from watching youtube videos while driving. (assuming I hook up a parking break bypass).

Anyone know if this 6600nex would have a chance in a 2nd Gen. I'm guessing I'd need to trim the stock bezel? I'm literally about to pull the trigger. I was going to get the 7600 but this flush mount is ridiculous looking. I'm jealous.

My apologies if this is a 3rd gen thread.

I did read that you must hook up the GPS adapter to use Maps and such. Seems strange but that's what I understood.

Interesting - I feel like that is how they are preventing us from doing the brake bypass. But whatever - I dont really need to watching anything while driving anyways. Just would have been cool for road trips for the family.

Yeah that's true... Are you planning on attempting this in your 2nd Gen? How will you go about flush mounting?
