Use a degreaser or brake clean. Water won’t get it off. That’s good it engages and no noises.

Okay will do tomorrow. Been cleaning out the truck and drying the stuff in the soft topper all day, since the waterport opened and spilled everywhere. Finally feels good to be clean.

Should I take it to the dealer? Will they do anything about it?

I agree with randy, BUT, at a minimum, try and grab that stock skid that was offered up first. The less evidence the better and no skid will def cause them to question it. If there is no visual damage then maybe?

Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
Diff fluid is by far the worst smelling fluid you have in your truck. Like Randy said, hit it with brake clean, and then see where it is leaking from.

    Damn this is unfortunate.

If this is what you want to do, I'm funny enough suppose to be receiving a new skid plate from RCI tomorrow. Happy to let you have my old one if you want it.

@nguyenpatrickt , Having a fun with your pix and Bill Cosbys picture pages... almost..

This is my guess studying your pix.

Pic. 1 (rear forward) shows the diff drain plug wet and the rib above it very wet. Making me think the leak is above the drain plug. Also the back side of the diff mount is wet as well. Which leads me to think the fill plug because it’s also above it.

    1A7EE513-D30F-4289-A630-3F7EA2B2BB72.jpg

2nd pic. (Front to rear) kinda shows the same thing but the lower mount for the diff bracket/support is only wet on the bottom jot the top. So now me thinks possible axle seal to half shaft. That said. If that was the case, I think more gear oil would be slung all over everything.

Now, All that said thinking possible diff breather tube has come undone. But do not remember which side it on.

Again... Me taking an internet guess and not trying to scare you, but, do let us know what you find.

This just sparked a memory of mine.

@nguyenpatrickt one time at fpk the elevation fucked with my front diff and caused it to puke oil out of the breather tube. I cleaned it all up and hasn’t happened since. Wonder if the hit on the skid and the gear oil is a pure coincidence. That’s why I think making sure the diff is topped off, and then clean everything up and see what happens would be a good call. May be something simple like that, or a lose breather hose like Bill suggested, etc. Try not to assume the worst.

Hopefully he can clean it up and find the leak. That's always the worst part.

Yeah, what @EatSleepTacos said. The plus side of the slightly muddy color diff will act like a tracer with a fluid leak. Possible to find where the leak is coming from before clean up.

Hows that saying go. Hope for the worst, wish the best. or something like that.

    I’ll be quite now. Haha

I can also attest to this: when I drove from Colorado at 7300ft MSL to Virginia at 300ft MSL in under 30 hours, my front diff puked some oil everywhere. I would still be cautious and add oil if you need any and keep on looking for a leak the next couple days

Anyone know how I can transport my AR15 from Virginia to Pennsylvania through Maryland without becoming a felon in the process?

Post lots of pics and stuff from the trip guys. I had to bail on the run this weekend and head to Detroit for a family medical situation, which has improved dramatically. Back home now, but may be headed back in a few days. I was really bummed about not being able to go, so please let me live vicariously through your fun. Next time.

Ive transported many firearms across state borders and never had a problem. Then again, I never been pulled over (knock on wood). Regardless, I always have my firearms, when transporting, unloaded, and in a locked case. The further you are when driving from the weapon the better in your vehicle (backseat or even bed of truck if it can be secured in there by a cover or camper shell). You can claim you are merely transporting the firearm instead of brandishing it
