What are my options for spotlights?

While on an offroad trip last summer I found myself on an unfamiliar trail and trying to find a suitable campsite after dark when I realized I could use a nice spotlight on my truck. When I started looking around online I couldn't find much that actually fit what I was looking for though. All I want is something fairly small that I could mount in front of the driver's side mirror, and for it to be remote controlled (wired is fine, and maybe even preferred). Something like a cop spotlight, except without actually drilling a hole through the A-Pillar like this guy.

The closest I've found so far is either the

$519 GoLight LED Permanent Mount t Searchlight with Dash Mounted Remote, White

Golight, which is too large, or the Arges which seems to be marketed exclusively to first responders. I assume I can still buy it as a random civilian but I'm not sure. Are there any other options out there that I'm missing? And I guess the next question is how I would even mount it? A ditch light bracket would probably be too small, even for the Arges. Maybe I'd have to make some custom brackets.

 

Just put on a set of good ditch lights, it’ll be plenty of light to see looking for camp sites.

True, that's always a good option. It's certainly a lot more affordable. But it's not as cool!

 

I have a go-light on my work truck and it is pretty awesome. But I rarely work the night shift anymore since I have so much seniority. Last wildfire I did patrol our darkass highways and that thing lights up an intersection like a boss. Having said that, I probably wouldn’t want one mounted on my Tacoma.
For your use; I would spend the money on a killer flashlight.

 

Go light is good. I had the wired suction cup version for a very long time. worked great and can take a beating

 

Can't help but notice Wal-Mart and Harbor Freight have truck lights. And Costco.

I wonder if there's any budget options cheaper than Rigid.
Recently I installed Nilight flood lights into my rear bumper, from Amazon for $20-30.
I'm assuming they also make mountable flood lights that can be put on brackets sticking out from the hood by the A-pillar bottom.
Those brackets might need to be bought from other companies or made DIY style.

Some people here will tell you buy Rigid or nothing.
I will likely ignore that advice no matter how many times it is said.

Those are the pre-requisites for Rigid and I am none of those currently/at this present time.

I think that it's much better to get out there and explore with a budget option that's almost as good,
versus stay home and do nothing due to not being able to afford Rigid charging $240 for a light bulb

People will say "oh but the Nilight bumper light can leak in a year!"
Then guess what I'm doing
waiting a year to unscrew it and put a bead of Black RTV sealant or something

 

Do you have yours mounted on the roof? I've seen that before and it looks pretty sweet, but you are right it's not really what I want or need. Still, a man can dream!

I was thinking of just getting a better flashlight or a handheld spotlight, but I just love the idea of having a searchlight I can operate from within the cab.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I just need a light that's small enough to still fit there without looking dumb. That Arges I linked is pretty much the perfect size, but $400+ for a light that I probably won't even use that much is a bit steep.

 

Lights sound cooler if they get operated by buttons. IDK if they could turn.
Because a handheld would need to be operated by hand and unless you have a passenger idk how it would flash out the right window while driving, though I imagine people have done it.

IDK if such lights can be made quickly removable, with a butterfly nut or tools kept hidden inside the truck so that any random thief can't just remove them. If desiring to remove it when not in use for appearance, aerodynamics, etc.

 

It’s mounted on the frame that protects the back glass from cargo. I can’t remember what they call that rack. The remote is in a holster on the dash. Trucks in the shop after a knuckle head started yanking hoses underneath trying to steal gas. Or I’d show you a pic. It’s neat light. But I’m not above sticking my arm out the window with a fantastic flashlight.
