This last week I came across a post listing a product for sale on this forum by a member who is no longer a member of the Tacoma community and I believe is taking advantage of this community.

The product listed for sale by this member is marketed as a “solution” he came up with and is extremely over priced for what it is (my opinion). Typically I’m all for capitalism, however this forum is about helping each other and not taking advantage of one another for personal gain.

I posted in the ad giving people looking for the same “solution” another option, and a better option and my post was deleted. I contacted the seller to find out why my post was deleted and I received no response. Based on the above I believe this individual is trying to rip off members which I believe should not be welcomed here.

Many people participate on this forum with the intent on helping others which is needed in our current climate. Moral of the story is, do a little bit of research before buying “solutions” from other members who appear to be scammers. They will probably disappear as soon as they get your money.

Thanks for coming to my rant

TW has had very few scammers over the years compared to other forums.

Your post was probably deleted because it violated the BST rules of the forum, and the OP of the thread has no ability to edit or delete posts, only mods.

You coming into someone’s FS thread and posting about price, and linking to a comparable product is definitely against the rules.

OP this pretty much covered it. If people are willing to pay for a product, and that product gets delivered as advertised, there's no scamming going on. Feel free to create a separate thread for people researching, that way they can choose to DIY or buy premade.

Agreed, OP you should take advantage of our late-stage-Capitalistic society and create a separate thread with your better, lower-priced option, and let the market decide for themselves. I'm sure everyone appreciates the sentiment of you trying to thwart what you saw to be a scam, unfortunately not always received in the way it was intended :)

Lol the intent of my post was not for my personal gain. I have no interest in creating a product for sale on here. I was simply trying to make other members aware that there are some who are looking for a quick buck without considering others

I originally thought I may have violated the rules which still may be the case. However another member made a very similar post to mine which still remains on the ad along with the OP’s response.

Your post was deleted for BST reasons. The seller isn't selling to up-sell- he's selling something slightly different and members are supporting another member.
Think of it like a bumper or sliders. Only so many designs can be made, right? Ultimately, it's up to the buyer to decide what they want to do with their money.

true, I just personally find issue with a “member” trying to make a quick buck off real members instead of trying to educate them.

It all makes sense now. I thought the same thing as you when I saw the thread you're talking about.

But, it's geared towards people who just want to buy stuff as a package and not put any thought into it which is totally fine. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how to mount a spare with a Y strap, so I don't think he's fooling anyone into thinking there isn't a simpler option.

Just installing D rings is a massive step up for hauling and storage. Back in the day when we could get the cheap HMMWV ones, it was probably the best $20 mod (for a set of 6) that I made.

yes I just took personal offense to it when I found out he doesn’t even own a Tacoma and it’s trying to make a quick $100 on members

Yeah. I also don’t like non-toyota pickup people capitalizing on perceived weaknesses of toyotas. I find it distasteful and lacking the passion that the subculture ecosystem has. But what are you gonna do. Culture vultures gonna culture vulture.
