As I keep seeing posts about "Raptor lights" for our trucks - and then the anticipated comments about Raptor wannabes it hit me that we need to change the discussion. We're not taking OEM lights from Ford designated for Raptors and installing them on our Tacomas. We are putting marker lights on our trucks - that have a similar effect to those on Raptors. If you put the same type of tires on your truck as a Gladiator, are you installing Gladiator tires? No.

So, let's change the discussion and call our lights TacoLites or TacoLights or...something other than Raptor lights.

Yes, I have too much time to think on the weekends.

If Raptors had rear drum brakes, would they be called Taco brakes?

It’s a characteristic of the raptor, and is now associated with the raptor. Tires are not the same thing, any make and model can come off the lot with all sorts of tires. They are raptor lights.

And this is a raptor light justification thread.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
If they were built to mil-spec, they would be called "unbreakable" by the contractor, "a f(*$^ service nightmare" by the depot, and "a challenge to see how fast a private can break it in training" by the instructors. So - let's just call them whatever the hell we want, we all know what they are.

It’s basically the same thing as when a guy wears a purse but insists you call it a satchel or a mail bag. Nah bro. It’s a purse. You know it’s a purse. I know it’s a purse. Everyone else knows it’s a purse.

The funny thing to me with this whole trend is that the raptor doesn't even have them to look cool. The reason they exist on that truck is because it's so damn wide they're legally mandated.

Technically they should be called "Wide vehicle lights"...my Motorhome has them too...if you're pushing 80" (or more) wide, it's the law!

Clearance marker lights have been on trucks before a Raptor was a twinkle in Fords eyes. So we should call Raptors Dump truck lights?

Nah. Because it’s a consumable, and not part of the overall aesthetic design.

In the grille? I’m young (ish) and can’t remember any truck that patterned their clearance lights like that in the Grille.

So pre-raptor production, in grille lights with the same pattern. Please show me.

Mission accomplished. Responses are more predictable than a Hallmark movie plot. And, it's not even Friday.

You can call it whatever you want.

There’s two types of raptor light people. Those who genuinely think a row of lights in the grille look proper. And those who idolize fords wannabe pro-spec trophy truck (it’s not even fucking CLOSE to being anything of the sort) I suspect most will claim to be the first guy...but that just ain’t the facts. The first guy just happens to like lights that make him look EXACTLY like the second guy, and the second guy is a simp gomer who doesn’t know any better. It’s a tragedy, but for most people it’s not a problem, because they aren’t gomer’s who install raptor lights. Now, if you’re a raptor owner and you come across somebody who knew somebody who had an obscure motor home that had a row of amber lights in the grille (have yet to see these lights), well, that’s their fight.
