Yes indeed. It seems to me that this dirt bag acted alone trying to get a quick payday with no intention of letting the Newtons know about any of it.

LOFL!!!! Cam is a badass player! I actually hope all this comes out good in the long run in Cams favor. I want our Lamichael James to win the Heisman but NOT from a forfeit type of deal if Cam gets it and then gets the shit taken away. Don't need another Reggie Bush deal!

    GO DUCKS!!

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — A person familiar with the situation says Auburn has had "no contact whatsoever" with a man who allegedly tried to secure payment from Mississippi State during the recruitment of Tigers quarterback and Heisman hopeful Cam Newton.

The NCAA is reviewing the recruitment of Newton, but Auburn has not received a letter of inquiry from the sport's governing body, the person told The Associated Press on Friday on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to comment publicly.

The person says Newton's eligibility "has at no point been in jeopardy." Newton will play Saturday vs. Chattanooga.

Former Mississippi State player John Bond has said his ex-teammate Kenny Rogers was soliciting payment during Newton's recruitment.

    From inside the Auburn Tigers......

Talking to a variety of sources on the subject last night and today, here is what we have been told about the Cameron Newton situation:

We were told that Florida coach Urban Meyer is the one who called New York Times reporter Pete Thamel to try to get him to do an article on the subject. We were told that there was a three-way phone call with Meyer, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and former Mississipi State quarterback John Bond on the subject. This week Thamel showed up at Bond’s office in Mississippi, where he owns a construction company, and Bond would not talk to the reporter.

Explaining how he got involved in the situation, we were told Bond said that he received a phone call from a Mississippi State booster last year telling him that he had been approached by an agent/runner, Kenny Rogers, who was claiming that he could get Newton to Mississippi State if the booster would pay Rogers to make that happen. We were told that very soon after he received the phone call from the booster, Bond got another call from Rogers, a former Mississippi State running back, making the same offer to get Newton to Starkville.

Bond told our sources that he contacted MSU’s former athletic director to let him know what was going on so the Bulldogs could protect themselves from getting into trouble.

Mississippi State investigated the matter, turned the information over to the SEC and was satisfied the matter was resolved and had done nothing wrong, we were told. However, in a three-way phone conversation with Bond and Mullen, Meyer said that he wanted to get a story into the media about the situation and was going to call the New York Times about it. That newspaper is one of the media outlets that reported the story yesterday.

We were told that Bond said he has no evidence that Newton or his family knew what Rogers was doing or had done anything wrong.

All of the major Auburn sites have said the Urban Meyer thing is true.

Bond was just on 680 the Fan in ATL and denied it though.

I'm really enjoying all of the conspiracy theories about the Cam Newton story.

The mad hatter doesn't have enough tricks up his sleeve today. The line is 6.5 points... I'd still put my money on Bama today.

    ROLL TIDE!

Didn't see Bama loosing today, but now they know LSU wsn't joking around. My friends and wife kept saying, "LSU is over rated..so on and so on" and now they know they aren't.

No kidding... Thought I would learn my lesson after the SC game, huh? I thought we'd do it. Didn't see Richardson getting knocked out of the game, or Ingram being ineffective. Glad I don't say too much I have to eat later... there are some real shit-talkers around (see drifter from the 2009 thread).

So much for going back-to-back. Hasn't happened since Nebraska in the 90s, won't happen until at least 2011. We lost almost our entire starting defense, then tricked ourselves into thinking that we didn't lose anything after stringing together a bunch of early losses.

Hats off to LA State. Comical to me that people (national media types) still talk about their NC hopes. AU has to lose to both UGA and UA for that to even be a reality... and that won't happen.

I'm not one to outwardly pull for a team JUST BECAUSE they're playing auburn, but the ONLY way for Alabama to make it to ATL now is for Auburn to lose to UGA and UA, and for Arkansas to beat LA State. I'll cheer accordingly, in what I already know is a vain attempt.

Oh well... Still happy to be an Alabama fan. Roll Tide!
