Good afternoon all! I'm looking at adding the RC 3" lift on my truck. What are some tire sires that I can get away with? I'll probably run the stock wheels for a while and might go with aftermarket or TRD Pro wheels later. I was thinking 285/70R17 or like a 33x12.5 r17 to get something a bit wider. I'm not against wheel spacers for additional clearance either. Thanks

Wheel spacers will make the rubbing worse. The tire will arc wider due to the spacers causing issues.

You will probably have to trim a little plastic on the inner fender area. Pretty minor. Are you going to off road and go into ruts and dips? If so, very likely you will rub on the cab mount even with the lift. If not, you should be okay.

Yes very likely. Not like I abuse my truck but I'm not afraid to use it either.

You will rub with those sizes, even with a lift.

265/70r17 rubbed the fender liner at full lock and backing out of an inclined driveway before lift. After lift no issues.

The issue is the width more than the height. 265/70 or 255/80 may work for you.

Unlike other trucks I have had, lifting does not substantially improve the Tacoma's ability to clear wider tires. This is due to its design. That said, I am partial to the 255/85R16 (255/80R17) tires on stock wheels. They fit with no rubbing when I had no lift, and continue to do so after a 2" lift. Given that you are considering the 33x12.5 you would likely find the 255/85 (33x10) a bit narrow. The Toyo MTs 255/85R16 measure 33.5x10.25 so only marginally narrower than stock (0.25") and definitely taller. But, they are an option that are easy plug and play on stock wheels if you want a larger tire and buy yourself time to accumulate the necessary parts/upgrades/skill set to fit a wider tire.

Could we get a front end image of your truck with the 255 tires?
