I honestly stopped checking them a long time ago. I had this setup in a corsair obsidian 450d before and moved it into a fractal 804 in this image. Airflow has always been good with those cases and it's stable. Don't OC either.

I've a Fractal...R5?...and it's been every bit as good as the internet said it was. Glad to know their smaller offerings are just as good.

Lately I've been considering moving this build into their little 304. Not sure I can commit to that move though.

Lol! Everything on the case checks out. Graphics card and cooler fit, but it would just be really tight. I'd probably end up water cooling at that point.

Water cooling is the next great adventure for me once I upgrade for this "generation" of games. Oil cooling (or whatever is used when you just fill the tank with fluid) is also extremely dope, but way above my paygrade lol.

I wonder how much increase in performance there will be vs the 5700xt. Gonna be scooping up a new gpu for my 30th bday early next year. :bananadance:

Vega was based on GCN, which was very power hungry because the architecture was not well optimized for games. Basically AMD built compute cards and then tried to make them work as gaming cards by shoving more voltage into them. The RDNA based Navi (AKA XT cards) architecture is built for gaming and separate now from the GPU compute business.

Bottom line, Navi built on RDNA can get more done with less compute units because the compute units are better optimized for gaming graphic workloads. What everyone is waiting for is the high compute core count RDNA cards coming this fall with Navi 2/Big Navi.

I feel most people don't know why there was no 5800 or 5800XT right after the 5700XT dropped. The truth is that the original RDNA design in Navi wasn't scalable beyond the die used in the 5700XT, so AMD had no option but to wait for a design that could be scaled into a top end card.

Here's the story and sorry ahead of time for the ramble. RDNA was a fresh start for AMD. RDNA uses some of the parts of GCN, but rearranged in a completely different amount and way then GCN with the goal of better performance in games. RDNA was absolutely rushed to market. The head of AMDs GPU design team bailed on AMD when he hit a wall with his GCN based Vega design. Point blank the guy bet heavy that he could turn his beloved Vega compute cards that he built into top end graphics cards, and when he failed he bailed. He's working at Intel and designed their upcoming Xe cards which is why a lot of industry people are very skeptical that they'll actually be any good as high end components. Back to the story, when he left AMD was left without a path to progress with GCN so they went back to the drawing board and quickly designed and built RDNA. The problem was RDNA, in the first version anyways, didn't scale yield well at all. As in if they tried to build cards with tons RDNA of compute cores on a large die, like nVidia does with the Turing cards, they couldn't produce enough usable GPUs to make the manufacturing process viable. So the 5700XT was as far as they could push first gen Navi. AMD then had to redesign RDNA into what's now called RDNA 2, sometimes called big Navi (code word for the 2nd gen cards), which should scale a lot better for manufacturing larger die cards.

The hope is that AMD can put out something in the 3080/3080Ti class without the nVidia price tag using RDNA 2. Here's hoping that RDNA 2 is as good as AMD says it is. I like AMD but I'm extremely skeptical. I'm not sure what changes they made that suddenly allowed for the design to scale well as do real time ray tracing. If AMD pulls this off it'll be like pulling a rabbit out of their hat given the quick turn around from Vega, which they still use in their APUs, to Navi and Big Navi.

No worries for the ramble I appreciate the detailed explanation. I'll be in the market for something around the 2070 super/5700xt performance and price point. Just wanting to be as future proofed as possible as my ryzen 5 3600 should be good for a while

That's a wealth of information, I had no idea about the backstory there.

For those that don't know, AMD has already stated they plan to release RDNA 2 "Big Navi" cards before consoles drop. That means even if Nvidia doesn't give us anything we'll at least have a fresh round of high-performance AMD cards before the November. The big question is still what Nvidia is going to do. Will the answer immediately? Will they react and release a response to RDNA 2 later?

I've never been willing to take the gamble on AMD cards. Driver issues scare me and I LOVE Shadowplay. But at any rate AMD's release will only benefit consumers because we'll either get the option of choice, or lower prices from one of the two players. I'm excited. They can't get here soon enough.

What do you pay for your service? In US dollars please :)

Eek! I check mine all the time. Haven't had any issues for a while.. Since I got rid of the Corsair AIO H100i GTX my temps have been fine :)

I <3 My Fractal Design Define R5! I had the Define R4 before. Both Black without window.

The Vega cards are good cards. Don’t get me wrong, the 64 traded blows with the GTX 1080. The HBM memory they use also gives them an edge in any game that reallly stretches the memory bandwidth. That being said, to the industry, it was slightly disappointing since it launched at about the same price but drew even more power then the 1080 after a delayed launch. AMD had to try a different direction because clearly the underlying technology behind Vega was not going to be as power efficient as they hoped, that’s all.

I probably should pay attention to that more often. Guess it's time for some battlefield after work to put some load on her.
