That's cute. You would run out of ammo long before you came close to killing all of the bugs swarming you up north.

Still a concern when that’s a check box on your PDHA.

Though I do have a kit to treat some clothes, just too lazy. Bring in the deet!!

Pfft I retired from the Navy more than 25 years ago, what is this PDHA BS you speak of?! Would get shot up to hell and back before pulling into every port. Didn't matter what the shots were if you wanted to get paid (in $20 bills) you took your shots.

Have 2 set of clothes for working outside both drenched in Sawyers Permethrin and refreshed after every half dozen washings or so. And spray myself with Deet. The higher the concentration the better. If it won't melt fishing line on touching it then it is not high enough. And I am not farting dust. Yet...

Friend of mine lives on the North Shore in Silver Bay and this year he has started seeing ticks for the first time. Wonderful. Just freaking wonderful. One of the things I love about the North Shore is the lack of ticks. Or used to be.

On Wednesday have to take the dog to a vet in the Cities to get several tests for breeding him. I normally drive through Wi. to avoid the Cities when I head to the North Shore. Can't wait for that drive into the Cities

Shots were preventive, since you can plot a ships list of port calls during a tour by the crew’s subsequent treatment for VD.

Hey all, I live in Anoka co. Nowthen/Ramsey area and wondering if there are any trails worth checking out in the state? I know of spider lake and the ohv park up by the range but, is that really it? Has Minnesota been increasing trail numbers or decreasing them say in the past 10 years? Sorry, new to the off roading world.
    Thanks!

Spider lake is up near Pine River in Cass County. Most of the routes there are open (Cass is open unless otherwise marked).

Iron range is near Gilbert, and much bigger and more technical than spider lake.

The state is open/opening compared to 10yrs ago, but It’s always under attack by the environmentalists and the ATVers wanting to exclude us. It doesn’t help our cause when people do the wrong things in the wrong places.

Make sure you get your OHV sticker from the DMV/DNR. It’s require to be in the state owned forests.

Check out MN4WD and organizations like the Midwest Overland Society if you want to get involved.

Thank you for the quick response. I’ll look into mn4wd and the others. Shame that it’s under attack! I’m gonna try make it to one of those places soon.

Gilbert and spider lake are solid and expanding. It’s the other state, federal, and county lands that currently open are being whittled down.

I agree with Corpin on the whole thread. You can do Gandy dancer, but that's just a road...don't waste your time if you're looking for fun trails or anything technical.

    Also, Welcome!

    Throwing this one out again:

    Anyone looking for an awning?

I have an Eezi-Awn "Shade" Awning in grey I'm looking at selling. Great for shading the whole side of your rig! It is brand new, never been attached, just inspected to make sure all parts were present.

    Dimensions:
    2.5M
    Open : 98" L x 82" W | 2500mm L x 2100mm W
    Closed : 98" L x 3" W x 5" H | 2500mm L x 75mm W x 100mm H
    Leg Height (Fully Extended) : 92" H | 2300mm H

Retail price is: $325. Would sell it for $300. It is still in the original packaging.

I was being stupid and thought it went out 2.5M. Would be great for someone with a topper roof rack.

Welcome! I live in Coon Rapids so we are neighbors. Like they said there are options but nothing really close to us. Spider lake is fun and I was able to drive all the trails out there with my Subaru so not super technical. the Iron range has the best wheeling in the state but Trollhaugen jsut across the border in WI has some great technical trials but they aren't open every day.

Well seeing how there are a few people from the north metro on here. I work in Anoka and I have seen a couple nicely built 3rd gens around here just yesterday I saw a white 3g with a lift and prinsu rack. Also a 2nd gen with all CBI armor. Kinda got a chubby from it.

Besides Spider Lake and Gilbert, there is a park in Appleton, MN. All are 3 hours from the twin cities. I’ve been too all 3 and think Gilbert has the most to offer in terms of technical trails. The things I like about Spider Lake is it’s feeling of remoteness and the large number of forest and minimum maintenance roads in addition to the trails.

The rub is that they have been canceling their public events because of covid19, otherwise I might have joined a club this year. Maybe it’s still worth joining, but I’m not sure

I may be interested in checking this out (Spider Lake). Has anyone done any camping there or nearby? How is that?
It would be my first trip.. been slowly building my truck.. want to get the suspension set up before I'd go (likely the 6112/5160 kit).

There are many camping spots at Spider Lake. Pre-covid, they were often all occupied. Post-covid all have been closed as well as dispersed camping, but good news, camping appears to be open now.

    https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/trail_detail.html?id=27

EDIT: I’ve never actually camped there because my family’s cabin in nearby, but I know that all of the campsites are primitive. There are some biffies in the parking lot and at the park on spider lake, but they have been closed during covid19.
