Wow!! Thanks for the update. I'd have him show you every V6 on the lot until they find another with out an ATF. If they can't find one then ask him to explain why yours doesn't have one. It sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. Good luck tomorrow.

The white paint helps keep things cool, making the trans cooler unnecessary.

The short cylinder thing on the thermostat is called the oil cooler; your inquiry is about the air-cooled oil cooler...according to Toyota nomenclature.

Thanks, he says he can’t just put on a cooler without being absolutely sure it is supposed to have it.I said well surely someone at Toyota knows. He say not necessarily, depends on when it was in line(?)which plant, yada yada. To say this is frustrating is a huge understatement.

Yeah, I would have had him pop the hood of at least three other V6/AT Tacomas and shown him the difference.

It is 100% supposed to be there. Dealership dude doesn't know what he's talking about but seems like he's just trying to avoid it based on this story.

I could buy the radiator having an integrated ATF cooler... every automatic I've ever bought had one. But clearly the Tacomas are supposed to have either a separate external cooler or an additional cooler up front as evidenced by every one else's truck.

The guy is trying to pass the buck. The lady you spoke with on the phone needs to know you were basically blown off today.

I told the guy that I believe Toyota knows what the deal is. He said he has been a Toyota service manager for twenty however many years and if there is a problem Toyota will fix it.

I'm still leaning towards a running change that was just recently implemented...given that there has been more than one reported

If they would tell me that and can prove it someway I would be fine with it. I think they had a supplier issue and didn’t have any and built it as if stick shift. Crazy, probably. I don’t think there will be a definitive answer.

If your rad has an atf cooler built in, the rad will have a transmission line coming in and going out. Just like an external cooler would. Check your radiator for lines that go to and come from your transmission.

The people you've been in contact with probably have no idea about such things. I'd give it a bit of time for the question to find it's way to the right people

Honestly, that is a good point. Unless the rad for towing, now had a larger internal cooler and therefore a new part number, not sure.

That's the thermostat. It opens up at a certain temperature to send oil to be cooled by the rad/ ext cooler.

Curiosity got the better of me so had to go check. 12/19 build date and mine has a trans cooler.
