    It’s on Pioneer’s website.

    Everything ordered!

what’s the consensus on which brackets to use? The stock or the kit from crutchfield. I ordered the kit but I might return it if stock will do the job.

Also - there is no point in getting the brake bypass, correct? Won’t change anything due to the gps connection is what I’m understanding.

I would think the metal factory brackets would work the best. They also have some flexability but will stay where they are bent. It makes it a little easier to get the alignment perfect.

I used the plastic brackets that came with the Crutchfield kit. They seemed to work fine. They factory might be a little better though.

No, no point in the brake bypass.

I was going to post that also.

It’s not a big update. You’ll need to connect the CarAVAssist app, download the update then tether your phone to install it. If you’re not tethered you won’t get the option to transfer.

I was trying to be proactive & have a bypass installed also so I couldn’t answer that. Someone without a bypass would need to tell us both.

Finally got around to removing the plastic crutchfield bracket so it was flush, however, the metal oem bracket (for JBL upgrade) has it tilted, might need to get the dremel out and make some screw holes.

So I just installed the update via caravassist. The process isn't super clear. Tether the HU to your phone. Then open caravassit on your phone. Select firmware update. On the HU go to settings then, system, then system information. Press firmware update then select caravassist as the method. The press the button on your phone.

That's my biggest beef about this unit, or perhaps Pioneer in general, all the nonsense you have to go through to get things set up and working. I have had multiple times where carplay didnt engage, I had to toy around with going to airplane mode, then bluetooth on and off, then hope it connects. A couple times i had to hardwire it to get carplay to work while driving. I also had the screen "blink black" periodically, the music didnt interupt, but it would happen every 15-30 seconds.... Very annoying, however i reset to factory last night and so far no blinking.

That said, this unit is BEAUTIFUL, have it sounding pretty good right now too. Cannot wait to get new system up and running.

Might be an apple thing. Android auto has been flawless every time I use it. Just click on it and it switches modes. If I'm not using AA...I press on Alexa and it automatically reconnects to my phone hotspot. Love it. I use Alexa to turn off lights after I leave or to open and close garage doors when I get close to the house.

So far after the reboot, working good. Need to get Alexa in the mix.

I have yet to have the CARAVASSIST app connect. I've directly connected it and it still can't seem to find the head unit. Did you guys have to do anything special?

You need to use your hotspot on your phone and connect it to your radio.

The first 2 days I had the unit connected it rebooted once per trip. It hasn’t done it since though.

A few times CarPlay has has been disconnected but I went into the Bluetooth on my phone and selected the radio and it reconnected.

No real issues though. I know it’s brand new and there will be firmware updates to correct the software issues.

SXM doesn’t hold a signal as well as the OE did. There’s one area I drive daily where the OE would cut out. The XSM adapter is even worse.

I have wired Apple Car Play on my other car and I’m pretty happy with it.

Do you guys prefer the wireless with this HU? Or is the wired a more reliable choice?

    Growing pains,
Little early to tell, but the wireless has been great, don't have to take the phone out of my pocket to and from work. Long trips i usually plug it in.

Wireless Car Play has been flawless with this unit. Connects every time. All parts of Car Play work and just as fast as wired. If that was the last thing used, it auto boots into Car Play without any fiddling with the unit. On longer trips I throw the phone on the QI charger and use the wireless while the phone stays charged.
