How Important Are Mud Flaps?

Amazon has cheaper i think the dealer prices is with over inflated install. looks like they bolt on.

 

If they bolt to the cab sheet metal, they are steps. If they are welded to the frame or bolted to the frame on two sides, they are sliders. Basically, can you jack on them or not?

A good 95% of the trucks on the road don't have them. They are required by law in at least one state, maybe a couple more. I've been driving trucks and SUV's since the 1970's and my Tacoma is the only vehicle I've ever owned with mud flaps. They broke off after 3 years. That was 10 years ago and I never replaced them. I average roughly 1000 miles/year on dirt or gravel roads. I've never had any damage to this, or any other truck.

 

Rekgens have intermediate flexibility. We get ~50 inches of snow per year and I did not want the hard flaps that accumulate slush-snow that turns into a huge block of ice. I also did not want flimsy rubber guards. Would they last on a truck that goes on tough trails regularly? Maybe not.

On road they help keep your truck clean, reduce wear and damage to your paint , and make your truck and taillights more visible in the rain to the drivers behind you from the reduced spray. If you do rough off roading you either need to cut them down or remove them unfortunately.

 

I got a new one set for $60 delivered. Installs in under 5 minutes.

Is there a cosmetic reason not to get them?

 

I installed Rekgen flaps this weekend and I like them a lot. No rubbing with 265/70/17s KO2s and they flex more than most brands (I had Weathertech on my old SR and they rubbed and were very rigid).

 

I had the WeatherTech guards on with the stock wheels, but after adding the T4R SEMA wheels, the front was rubbing so I removed them. Ordered a set of Rekgens today from Amazon. Hoping it works but your post is encouraging!
