Yea, me too. Maybe I’ll have my new bike by the fall and we can plan another trip. I’ll go hardcore hardtail all over.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Yeah this time of year there are always gonna be showers at some point. My mtn house is only a little ways from there and we see showers on and off.
But like it was said early, as long as it doesn’t pour down the day before you ride you will be good.

I hit the Yancey Country ridge drop the other month. Shit was off the chain...decided to shuttle to the top on my neighbors SXS and bomb the drop.
Glad I had on my MX gear cause I took flight. The Bronson now has it first real scars!

What I am saying is see how much comes down the day before. Then roll up there and enjoy yourself. If you get rained out it was all part of the trip.

I just got back from a 500mile hard enduro trip with some buddies. Myself and another friend are seasoned.
Two guys were mid pack and one noob.
It was slick and tough as fuck, but in the end we all had smiles and the food/brews were mighty tasty at the end of each day.

haha I hear you, just don't want to get rained out lol.

I'm of the opinion if it's a real high chance we are getting rained out, let's move the location or date, but if everyone is still going then I'm in. Would just be bummed to drive over there and not get to ride, or ride and get absolutely destroyed/injured because of trail conditions.

It’s a really nice drive too I always look at all the BBQ places that are around, so in case my day goes south, I make the best of it by tasting various goodness around.
Hence why I am a DH rider lol

So I have ridden MANY miles in Pisgah in ALL trail conditions, rain, snow, hail. We had 4 hours of literal Hurricane winds/rain/hail last year during a race. I say that to say, you have to be able to make the call yourself on what weather and trail conditions are acceptable for you skill level. As @Built2Ride said, it may be tough. But I've never had a "bad" day in Pisgah.

    Same here.
    Two things on my mind.
    1. I'm not a fan of camping in prolonged rain. Done it enough for one lifetime.
    2. As with offroading in the truck, I have a strong sense of vehicle preservation. Pinstripes and dents are fine, but I prioritize getting back home under my own power. Same with riding. And in this case its not the bike, but my body.

so as the resident expert, knowing I'm a beginner and hesitant about riding in stormy/rain/wet. when do you recommend deciding "not to go"?

It's not going to be a situation that is dangerous unless people choose to go faster than their skill level. If the trail is slick, we will slow down and walk any rooty/tech sections.

We can make a call tomorrow to postpone or not. I, like @cgstclair, am less inclined to camp in heavy rain

I agree with that too, would not be much fun.

please don't take anything I'm saying as "let's cancel or postpone" I just want to be smart about it and be able to enjoy it the best we can. if everyone's still going, then I'm F'ing in. I just already know it's above my skill level, so the rain will just amplify that.

DuPont trails drain well. Heck, I've ridden DuPont in the rain and it's even better than dry :D
