Yeah, it sure seems that way. I don’t mind 2-3 week lag time, but 8-16 is a tall ask right now.

Maybe for some people, but those are fairly regular lead times for the industry, not to mention all the supply chain issues that COVID is causing.

No doubt about that. I'm just impatient!

edit: IFS and mid skid order placed with BAMF. time to start this journey in earnest!

It's not your fault. We've been conditioned by Amazon (and internet culture in general) to need/want everything immediately. Most major companies have watered down their products to get them to us faster and cheaper. Fight the urge my friend. The Resistance is going to take down Jeff Bezos!

I was like this before Amazon, but Amazon and social media has made it way, way worse.

Do your sliders work nicely with the BAMF skids?!

I checked a couple of days ago and lead time was 2-3 weeks. Cheaper than BAMF (and Mobtown). Truth be told, they were rarely mentioned in any of the various threads and comparisons I read. Their bumpers come up a ton, though!

Why do some manufacturers distinguish between stock and re-routed exhaust for their skids and others don't? Is the exhaust re-route to get it up higher and out of the way? It seems to sit pretty low and subject to getting hit.

Exactly. If you peek under your truck right in the middle, you'll see that the exhaust goes underneath the transfer case. You can get it rerouted to tuck it up above the frame rails. Different skids accommodate this differently. I always recommend getting a reroute done if you plan on buying a transfer case exhaust. It costs about $200 but it makes a wild difference offroad, because it's right in the middle of the truck. I used to get hung up on mine all the time until I got it tucked up.

Yeah, I held off on the transfer skid because I don't have it re-routed. If it's only $200 that's something I may want to get done sooner than later.

Is it a bolt-on or is welding required?

Edit: why didn't Toyota just route it up high to begin with?!

It's something an exhaust shop does for you. There's a local place that's recommend but I forget the name. @GoGoGadget and @BTHawk can chime in with the name.

Here's mine for a rough idea, but this is different than a third gen.

This is my first Toyota and "why didn't Toyota just do X" has been a constant thought of mine.

I know. I mean that point of the exhaust system appears to be the low point in the system, and there is a clear path where they could have run it higher.

Awesome. I assume it doesn’t take too long since it’s only $200?

Thats almost an hour away from me. Can anyone recommend a shop near Herndon that can do the exhaust relocate?

Your best bet then would be look up shops closer to you with good reviews, print out a pic or two and go get a quote from them. That's what I did. First place wanted like $350. Second place did it for $120.
