They don't come off, 80 series axles are two piece clamshells. I'm just taking an 80 series 9.5" third and putting it in a Diamond housing and using the 80 series fullfloat outer spindles. That's about as good as you can do for an appropriately sized fullfloater. Anything else is a full-size 1 ton and way too fucking heavy.

What about a high pinion ford 9”

would think it be a easier route with the high aftermarket support

It's not really easier but it's more expensive for sure. Hi pinion Ford thirds are weaker too, and somehow way more expensive than the low pinion. The diamond housing I want exists already, I just tell them the width and they make it happen and I order the right length axle shafts. I can use a factory 80 third and hubs which keeps the cost down and the 80 third I can set up myself.

I actually didn't pay too much, which should have been another red flag. A stock elocker axle is $800-1000 here, I paid $800 for the diamond housing with 3 RCV shafts, the disk brakes, SS lines, and 2 pairs of drive flanges and acquired my own third :homer:

You'd be surprised how many people don't.

Those that don't probably only use salt as "seasoning" also...

Hmmm I have about that in my 80 rear axle.

As for the d60, just get a ball joint one (seriously). With the stronger ball joints companies have produced, the strength difference is kind of moot for what you need with a full bodied tacoma. I would rock one without blinking an eye.

There's an 8.4 with 3.91s in it for cheap locally, I have thought about throwing that in, returning the truck to stock, and dumping it.
