I suppose that could be the case. We used to have the type with electrical fans/thermostats. Those were super efficient, but we used them on the engine oil side of things too. Another immediate benefit of relocating or adding coolers, or replacing the OEM with larger fan cooled versions is that you are increasing the fluid capacity. That along is a great benefit. Of course with it comes the cost of more fluid. But that is outweighed.

Now, with all that said, this was before synthetics were used. Everything was dyno back then. Now, with companies like Amsoil and Royal Purple, and even Mobil 1, they synthetics they produce are far far superior to what we were using back then.

Look at the pic of the window sticker. The tow package was moved from the options column to standard features.

@Jeff Lange, do you have any info on this? Different part numbers for radiators on 2020 models maybe?

2020 V6/Auto. Build Date - September 2019. The window sticker does mention the tow package, but not the transmission cooler. But I checked, I do have one in front of the rad.

How about this, is this good enough for you? If it’s not I can find more “ evidence”.

The thing is that, just like the Model Brochure, there will be a disclaimer somewhere saying that specifications may change at any time.

Your main evidence is going to be the build date, photos / inspection of your Taco, and photos / inspection of other similar Tacos. Including the assembly location (Texas, Baja Cali, or Southern Mexico) is probably a good idea also?

You're probably right but I was referring to the fact that trans fluid is being circulated through a pipe that is submerged in 190 degree radiator water, once the trans T-stat opens. Thus the engine coolant temperature will heat/cool the trans fluid depending on the difference in temps. Thus the trans fluid will never cool below 190 without that additional trans air cooler before the fluid is sent back to the trans. FWIW, I pinned my trans thermostat open and put a fan on the additional trans air cooler. :D

Even if there has been a mid-stream update what’s likely happened is the V-6 now has an updated radiator with the ATF cooler inside while the other Tacos do not. It would be part of the tow package. Guessing here.

I have all that info. The service mgr. and me are supposed to look at other trucks today. He hasn’t called yet, I’m not holding my breath. They only have 1 new one OR on the lot and it has the cooler. They have a couple of Pros but he thinks they are special so I doubt if he would look at those.

Yeah. I would stick to your same model.

If this dealer keeps giving you BS info, esp after looking at other Tacos with the same build date, notify the person working your case and try another dealer. This should not be a struggle, but . . .

This is what I was saying earlier. EVERY automatic transmission should have some sort of ATF cooler built into the radiator (my 65 Chevy has/had one.) The cooler the OP is missing must be an auxiliary cooler for heavy duty work.

I think you're onto something, but instead of saying they were going to integrate the cooler into the transmission (because it should already have one) it might be possible at some point they realized the standard cooler was sufficient for towing.

Yeah someone from Toyota would just have to lay it out, everything else is pure speculation by we in the peanut gallery.

    Same crap everyone else got
    I've read this entire thread.
    I have one but i'm 2nd gen.
If there was a change and it is now run though the radiator, that would worry me as I have already once dealt with the Nissan milkshake of death from rotted internal lines and cross contamination.
That was a 4k boo boo that I still blame Nissan for never putting out a fix.
When they fixed the Nissan, the shop completely bypassed the inlet and outlet hoses for the trans lines in the new radiator and added a stand alone external cooler just for the trans.
I also thought that's how the tacoma transcooler was plumbed too. I don't know b/c i've never check.
I hope that's the case but if not, I may do that on my own so I can have peace of mind knowing I won't ever have leaking ATF in my engine block and coolant in my trans...

To OP, if a change is the case and you have a newer radiator that works that way, I would be getting the other style asap and adding the oem cooler my self, like all the others in this thread that have the cooler.
    Just my opinion.
    Good luck..

PS, Toyota dealership guy you're speaking to sounds like a douche and seems like he just thinks you are a waste of time...If he says you have a different radiator, I would
park my truck next to the one on the lot that has the cooler and make him show me the differences and part number changes, etc...
    Good luck.

Don't matter. It could be a boat, or his overweight mother in-law...point is, if its supposed to be there and not, then he needs that fixed.
