The 5.29 Mega Thread!!

Premier gearing in Riverside will do it for $1,600 or $1,700 if you join the group buy. I do know people that had problems after the re gear there. My regear went fine but they did do something to the parking sensor and I still haven't figured out how to fix it.

They'll install either revolution or nitro for that price. But they strongly recommend revolution if you ask. They'll tell you that nitro installations cause winning or grinding up to 40% of the time. They say they have yet to have any winning or grinding from the revolution gears.

 

It appears you'd have a small margin between the tailgate and the jack for tight turns in parking lots.

I faced a similar issue and bought a jack-e-up removable jack device so turning radius isn't a concern with the tailgate down.

Dude I run WY and MT at 65-70 when speeds are set at 80. No one cares, not enough traffic to matter, just chill in the right lane and enjoy the ride. There is always someone slower.

 

Check out my post #16 here with pics of my setup. I've stress tested it and i'm comfortable towing with the tailgate down 100%. Only time the jack post would come close would be an extreme uphill angle but i still think i'd be fine. I'm actually going to really be putting my 5.29's and truck to the test next month if the campgrounds finally open up. Towing the trailer with 2 dualsports loaded in the back of the truck. up near downieville ca.

I just picked up my Tacoma after having 5.29s installed and am going through the break-in period. It feels like a painful process, but I can already feel the gears at work hearing them row through the first four gears.

 

That’s crazy! I haven’t heard that before with Nitro Gears!
Brothers 4x4 in San Bernadino said they would do it for between 1500-1800 and would use Revolution Gears. Anyone have experience with them?

 

Had my gears installed here in Bend, OR at Gear Works. Friend of mine uses him for his shop projects. $1410 out the door. Nitro gears. About done with break in. Loving the change. 285s now but 315s go on this week

 

Is that including gears or just labor?

Must be with mini-kits because it's $1300 for the full kit so I can't imagine their labor is only $200-$500

 

Love my 5.29 revolution gears - smooth as silk. I guess the Jeep communing knows something after all.

 

I just had mine done with master kits for $1410 w/ fluids. I think a few shops can get these gears cheaper than we think. I personally found them for $1100 so I’m sure a professional shop is sub 1k on them.

 

Can you explain what a mini kit is? I haven’t a clue

 

Just a guess, I think it has the bare amount of seals or none at all. Maybe gears only?

 

Mini kit basically comes with shims and seals. The full kit includes all new bearings.

 

Idk, I guess it doesn’t matter as long as we get a good deal right.

^^ good deals if done right. I just paid my dealer $1100 to install ECGS preassembled members.

With the OvTune 2.0 final and 5.29s the truck is finally an easy and enjoyable drive. Highway mpgs unchanged, however a few mpg better in town.
