Sub Box '04 Dcab

I know there are issues with mounting any sort of decent sub box in an '04 Dcab unless you're willing to toss an unweildy box in the back or settle for some 10" shallow mounts (or some 8"s) behind the seats.

But what about the floor? Why couldn't you build something that takes advantage of floor space?

I attached a shitty diagram to give people an idea of what I am thinking. Ideally it would stretch from door to door across the back (50"), be wide enough that the front seats can slide back all the way (9"), and tall enough that it clears the tranny hump in the middle while taking advantage of that space for a couple extra inches (8") of air flow.

If my calculations are right, you should be looking at ~ .6776 cubic feet on each side (if you divide it into 2 boxes). I know volume can be improved by taking advantage of actual angles in the truck floor + tranny hump + rear seat vs the 90 degree angles I drew.

Thoughts? Improvements?

It was an '04 w/ 37K for <$20K (bought it in Jan).

Why not buy it?

If you're alluding to being able to haul people around, well, I'm trying to work that out with this design. But frankly, this truck isn't the family chauffer and I rarely have more than 1 passenger.

 

personally i like the box i have behind my back seats. fits 2 8" subs and it sounds beast. plus i can still utilize my back seats for hauling people around.

I was pondering the same thought: if they can build a sub enclosure box for behind the dcab seats, why can't they build it for under the dcab seats?

A guy there has a sub enclosure box under his double cab seat in his tundra! So I do believe it IS possible, just not sure how to go about it as I'm not that savy when it comes to electronics.

I am interested in this thread as I'd like to put some subs in my dcab as well. I know Pioneer makes the shallow 10's and 12's, Alpine has the typeR in a shallow 12, and JL Audio makes a shallow 13.5!!!

I'm running 2 8" pioneer subs powered by an 800W pioneer amp.

 

Believe me, I've looked at your set-up numerous times and I like what you've done. I'm just trying to decide whether or not I am going to go with the 8"s (like you did), a 10", or do a custom enclosure and try and fit a 12" or 2.

I re-measured everything and I could fit 2 12"s on the floor in a custom box that spanned the back, but I would be giving up all of my floor space.

it all depends on the amount of space your subs require. if you dont have the correct volume of air in the box they wont work as efficiently as they should and you wont get the bass you are looking for.
i bought a sub enclosure from bright star car audio which holds 2-rockford fosgate p3 shallow mount 10s driven by a power series 500.1 amp(776 true watts) it has .77 cubic ft. of volume and is rediculously loud. and it all fits neatly behind the rear seat.
