Not in reference to Toyota, but here is what my friend in the car biz said:

Also - since COVID dealers have been having to move inventory like crazy. I was talking to one of my dealers and he basically said they are buying used cars just to keep inventory on their lots. They had 6 Tacomas on their lot one week, 5 days later they were all gone. People may not be buying them in your area, but instead trading them with other dealers.

Plants were shut down but so were most of the vehicle auctions so a lot them need your trade in. Nice thing about CarGurus is it tells you how long the vehicle has been on the lot. If you find one that's been there for a while they're more willing to negotiate.

Yeah, that's what I figured you meant but for a second my mind was in turmoil thinking I wasn't aware of this sport package. Lol. There's also a few other differences between the two.

I sort of wish I had gotten the "Off Road" one because of the technology package and the crawl stuff. But then I thought, "When am I ever going to use that?" Plus, I do ALOT of highway driving and I didint want to have to replace those knobby tires.

Probably a good move. I just used crawl tonight. It was fun. Feels like the truck is going to shake apart though. Lol

Most likely you still got a really good deal. So without counting the student discount that the dealer gets back, that would be 15% off MSRP. Plus (for apples to apples sake)you could have chosen to get the $1750 off instead of the 0% which would have brought you to 19.4% off which is about 3% more than anybody has gotten on this entire thread. I’m thinking that you probably went to the dealer that has a crown on top of their name that deals in these super low Prices. Around that same time they offered me 15% off including the 1750 but wanted to give me $2k less than the KBB trade-in value for my truck. I didn’t take it because the deal I took was giving me $5000 more on my trade-in than them. Your trade-in is probably where they made the money on that deal.

My buddy at the dealership said Quicksand more than likely will be gone for 2021 . That was my second favorite color after cement.

I just saw a video from TRD JON. His contacts said Quicksand for Tacoma and Tundra is gone for 2021. Also Tundra Voodoo Blue is gone.
I'm interested to hear of any "New" colors for Tacoma 2021.

If you're in the SoCal region like me, it would be better to wait. Inventory is trickling in, but many are fulfillment of allocations as far back as late March - early April. My buddy won't get much of his inventory until August. Because of the supply constraint, almost every dealership I have reached out to are not negotiating on prices. Several have made it known that they would be doing me a "favor" by selling me a well optioned TRD Off-Road 4x4 at MSRP. Just 3 months earlier we were seeing regular discounts of 10-12% off MSRP before rebates.

At the end of the day, it's all up to you how badly you want the truck. August is so close to the 2021 MY that it didn't make sense for me to rush things. The supply constraint is only temporary, and dealerships are trying to capitalize on that. The Tacoma is a MASS produced mid-size truck, not a Lamborghini that warrants a markup or MSRP. Toyota sold 200,000+ in 2019, I highly doubt Toyota is going to let their supply flounder for long.

I'm in Pennsylvania and can pretty much buy within the next 30 days. I got the down payment I think I need for an affordable and reasonable loan now. I'm not sure if I want to try to find one now or not. The local dealers have few SR5 v6 double cabs and what they do have is a color I don't like. I have found a few on car gurus in Virginia in my preferred color cementand a few 50+ miles away in my second choice color. I have some reservation about buying out of state and with the supply being low not being able to negotiate 10% under.
Any one have experience with of of state sales?
I know Maryland dealerships can work with pendot but unsure about others.

Also would I be better of waiting until August-september or for 2021s to come out. Or maybe even hold out till Toyotathon?

Thanks @Naszero. I am in So Cal. I agree with you on August being so close to the 2021 MY. That's why i'm thinking just waiting for a 2021. New color ? Ordering it exactly the way i want it ? or waiting to see what comes in ?

Will they discount on an ordered truck ?
When are the 2021's coming ? Are they going to be late because of the shutdown ?
    So many ?'s
